Exactly, depends what your definition is of "the best", so when asking us "whats the best" try defining exactly what parameters you wish to compare....
[**** more off]
Price..............STi's generally cheaper than same spec P1's
Performance........STi TypeR's are quicker than P1's (close ratio box)
looks..............Similair
Handling...........P1 tuned to UK roads, STi-R **** out action
Gadgets............STi's have i/c waterspray, adjustable diffs etc
Warranties.........P1's have warranties, STi's.....erm
Headturning........Similair
Nickability........Similair
Insurance..........P1 probably cheaper and easier to find
so if you want the best warranty its a P1, if you want the best diff its an STi etc etc, and were assuming here that youre comparing P1 to STi4/5 type R (both 2 door). I'd have either one really but the size of my wallet only stretched to the STi.........

Dan,
You forgot trade in - the main reason I opted for the P1 after testing the water with a few dealers
"STI - sorry sir we dont take grey imports how about 9p to take it off your hands
P1 - yes that will do nicely"

which STI..??
If its a WRX STI V5 type R (£14K) id go for that, and spend the other £4-5K which is what it would cost for a P1 (£18-20k), making it run reliable on super unleaded i.e remap e.t.c..
I think on the type R you get driver controlled centre diff which would be great fun.
