Hi All,
can someone please clarify what is need do to get an import through an SVA test, here is how i see it in simple terms, please tell me if im wrong.
93WRX Wagon (Auto)

1) Fit Fog light
2) Change speedo facia for one to show MPH
3) fit fuel neck restrictor.
If im right about this then the parts come to about £70 plus a bit of time to do it, and then the test is £150, if so how come I get quoted £400-500+ to get it through including parts ?

Cheers for that, I asked for a breakdown and was told it was mainly labour charges as the car doesnt have the wiring for the foglight etc. etc. so I guess if that is all I need a can do it myself. How do I reset the ECU though is it as simple as removing the battery and waiting ?

Cheers

I am a pretty new Scooby person too, i first tried 95ron petrol when i picked up my car (MY95 WRX) it coughed and spluttered when driven hard!!!!

I now use Optimax and usually an octane booster (available from Halfords)

It really makes a difference!

there are a few bits you have missed.

Depend's if the price includes a proper speedo conversion or just new dials - worth checking,

What month was your car first registered? Remember cars over 10 years old don't need an SVA. Personally I wouldn't touch an import so close to the 'line' waste of £600 IMO. Unless it was a bargain of course.

You may also want to get a ECU reset done, Jap cars typically run on 100RON petrol, even Otpimax does not reach this octane level, a reset will force the car to "examine" the petrol type and adjust the engine settings.

Can you not ask for a breakdown of costs? It will be plain to see if you are being ripped off then.
