Question

I read somewhere that Octane Booster can do more harm to an engine than good.

However, surely running a grey import on 97 octane rather than its usual 100 octane in Japan is not good for the engine.

Comments on octane booster welcome!.

(PS. I cannot get 98 octane where I live in the Channel Islands so this is not an option!).

I have run octane booster since almost day one of owning my scoob, no probs whats so ever although it does seem to be a bit hesitant and jerky with the accleration since I ran out of Octane booster.

So I would have to say it does more good than anything.

I'm lucky where i live in that it's quite easy to get Optimax fuel which i have been putting in since ownership.I've also been using Millers octane booster for some time.I do notice a slight differance in performance when octane booster is in the tank.I've not heard any bad reports of using said products.

I thought the reply form the manufacturer in another thread about the remaped/uprated jap ecu (prova?) was interesting, said they added advance/remap to suit their hi-octane fuel which is 98 ron.

I know higher ron fuel is available there... also in most of europe.. even here if u wish to pay loads.. but were they really mapped to use these from the factory?

After seeing a number of very melted pistons from cars that had not been run on Optimax/ octane booster, that should have been, it's convinced me to only use Optimax and if I can't get it, octane booster(Silkolene pro boost)

I agree there.. SUL min..
But where did the 100 ron in japan thing come from?
Many people (inc some japanese tuning companies) have said hi octane fuel at most fuel stations is 98ron in japan.

U can get higher, like just about everywhere else 'cept uk.. like the shell v-power 99+ stuff.

but even engines running optimax etc have still failed here..
