Guys do you know if the STi8 can run on unleaded or does it need Optimax/SUL. It says on the Subaru UK site that it can run on Unleaded 95 RON but have not heard of anyone doing so. A m8 of mine is looking to get and STi8 as well but he does a lot more milage than me (Currently he is running a standard UK300 on unleaded fuel).

Don't use 95. Use SUL or Optimax. It will run on 95 but will
1. Det(pink) under load(I.e when driving it other than in mini metro mode)
2. Not perform as well(see mini metro mode)
3. Only use 95 in emergency as don't go above about 4K RPM.

He is going for a test drive tomorrow and I am going along. It would be interesting to see what the dealer says to him. I guess if he had a problem with the engine and they asked what fuel he was using, if he had used unleaded then how could they complain unless their website is wrong

Due to increased mpg i save money using SUL even at 6p more per litre.
I did some sums ages ago and worked out that on average i was gaining £1.69 per tank, even though it was costing me £3.60 extra to fill up. Try it for a few fill ups and see how you do. At worst you are gonna lose a few quid.

Hmmm, I thought that it would be ok run run my Sti on 95 ron until recently.
I did a rolling road a few weeks back and it may have been that I had 95 ron in my car (the fault of the petrol garage I think! ). Well, it detted badly at 5000 rpm and only producded 288 bhp where the others produced 310. Also the torgue and power graphs were horrible.
I'm now going to carry a bottle of octain booster around with me just in case
