a UK300-WR
and a std MY03
Which do you think i like better???????
We i want to change my MY97 sometime in the near future, so went into Beechdale's in Nottm
They had a really nice looking UK300 WR with all the bits on it.. Big Spoiler..etc.
so i booked a test Drive for yesterday.
My plan is that i want to change my car for something 'different'..manly the shape.
So though the 300 with PPP would feel quicker and look the 'dogs'
Yesterday arrives.. i get to Beechdale....what catches my eye???!
a RED MY03 in the window....WoW
looked awesome.. just in std form.
Mark at Beechdale said i could take out the MY03 for a test drive as well...wicked.
Well i went out in the uk300
Hard Ride (but 18's and Eibach's i put that down to) sporty ride as i should say.
Slow??? well put it this way it din't feel any quciker than my97 with the ful DeCat!...
all in all... the car didn't grab me and didn't make me want to change for it i wounld say a disapointment but the cars not for me.
the MY03 on the other hand!! WoW'dy WoW
still on 17's it rode better.
Forget the 'roll' of the car and the 'high' sitting of the car... it needs Eibach!!
The car felt fantastic.
Felt quicker...felt quicker than the 300 anyway.
felt like a car i could swap to.
It needs the s/s Zorst to give it the scooby sound back.. but that can come later!
The MY03 is the car the my01/02 should have always been.
the NEW sports seats are great.. a cross between buckets and comfort! better on long journeys.
having the 226bhp.. its not far off the UK300..i know the torques not as high bit the car pulled a lot better and felt more like the performance of the car ive already got.
and the look of the MY03 really dates the 300....and for the same money.. i know where i'd be looking.....£19k on a 2 year old car.. or £19k on a brand new..3yr warranty Uk car ????? its a hard one! Not!
Do a few simple mods to the MY03 i'd be very happy with it.
watch this space.

According to the SUK webiste the MY03 has 225PS about 222bhp. The 300WR shoudl have at least 25bhp more 245-250bhp and loads more torque for the same weight, it should have felt a lot quicker especially as the MY03 probably hasnt loosened up yet.

the MY03 was in the BLUE!!! not RED!!!
think it would have to have Blue Neon Fitted though!! LoL
Chris... the MY03 felt a lot better... and only had a few miles on the clock. The UK was pulling well at 90mph... but the 03 felt to me as good... plus...its NEW! not a 01 and two year old...and for the same price!
Put PPP on the MY03 and a full de cat.. the springs.. oh and a ultra bright Neon kit from NEOQUIP
and i'd hav a better car for my money lol
Chrome
they didn't have a22b at £20k.. it was a miss print they said.. they said it should have read P1! ?????
if they say so! lol
Scooby
where did you see her?

Just think how much it will cost you in extra if you go for a new WRX ? At least the Uk300 has standard Oz's, PPP and other bits ?
Oz's with tyres £2K, soon takes the price up
I'd still go for a new one and you know I am

There are only 300 ? Surely the world and their wife will have WRX's eventually
I'd still go for the WRX as I said to you last Monday when we spoke and you can do whatever you want to it
After all I'm having to give my alloys up with my Uk300 (18" OZ's) and I ain't paying 2 grand for a set for my Sti8 thats for sure

lol i know.. it was a joke
heres the performance figurs Subaru give for the MY03 (std)
PERFORMANCE MAXIMUM OUTPUT
PS @ rpm 225 @ 5,600
MAXIMUM TORQUE
Nm @ rpm 300 @ 4,000
MAXIMUM SPEED
mph (kph) 144
(232) 142
(230)
0-62 mph seconds 5.9 6.1
is that 300 lb of torque??????
same as a ppp UK300????
if so thats why i felt the MY03 felt quicker.

no
apparently (according to some conversion table I just found on the web):
So a MY03 WRX (nice plate if you can get it ) has only 221 lbft of torque
apparently (according to some conversion table I just found on the web):
1 lbft = 1.3558 Nm

By all accounts the MY03 does seem to be slightly quicker to 60 and 100 than the MY02, 5.5 - 60 & 16.1 - 100 for the 5 door. But surely 7 BHP of a difference doesn't make that much of a difference, so has the gearing changed to make the acceleration slightly better??

Hmmm have to disagree, I went out for a test drvie in an STi8 and although the handling felt mre responsive then my UK300 I thought it didn't feel quite as quick. I put this down to it not being run in yet but considering this was an STI8 and your saying that the standard wrx one felt quicker I find this very strange.

Nice one Phil!
The've got a red one down here, at first I was a bit shocked (me thinking they'd just have the standard blue! ) but it's grown on me and I love it
Having driven neither yet I can't comment, but the important thing is you get the car that suits you best

i'll go for the WRC Blue next....
would like the STi8...but alas ££££££££ not sold enough neon yet to justify £25k.
so i have to have something cheaper.
WRX std MY03 looks promising... £££££ allowing
i still say the uk300 didn't 'float my boat' as much as my own car does.... and defo didn't feel as quick.
mind you i never got out of 3rd and only went to 33mph! lol
Joke!
