I don't know the power, but it was mental. I think it was the first car to exceed 100mph on the 1/4 mile.
The engine is a 2.2 pinto engine, apparently.
My mate, Fiddler, spoke to the driver, who reckoned he could get 11 and 12 1/4 miles in the dry, but couldn't get the power down on sunday because of the slippery surface.

WRX Playtime - doesn't the "Toyota Starlet" badge on the tailgate on the third picture give you any hints?

Well I'm gutted. Only just got into Scooby ownership and I should have gone for a 1980's Starlet with a transit van engine in the front of it!
Seriously, I'm surprised the Scooby was beaten. Was he having sandwiches when the lights changed or something? I know a 2.2 pinto can go some but your not going to get much more that 160-170bhp out of one, sure the Starlet will be lighter but should have way less traction from the off....I guess a combination of reduced weight, low down torque, gearing and the right tyres can embarass an Impreza.

A generous rolling road that is offering 200 bhp at the wheels on a 2.2 pinto. I think you've got to be looking at some expensive steel crank and rods and 2.4 or above for those numbers.
Agree that lots of Starlets in short circuit stuff - it was the basis for many a National Hot Road with high revving 1700 crossflows pushing out silly BHP but needed rebuilding a lot due to the revs.
They are still winning in Autograss racing, commonly with 2.1 Vauxhall 8 valvle motors in the front (don't allow 16 valves) - the guys with Pinto based motors are having to run a 2.5 or 2.6 litres to keep up with them,
