Went shopping to Ikea Saturday, returned to the car with several long boxes and to my amazement couldn't fold down the rear seats. I've had 2 classic scoobs prior to this car and the seats folded down. Anyone know why Subaru changed the design? Only thing I can think of is the diagonal middle seat belt. Fortunately I was able to chuck half of the stuff in mother in laws Clio while the other half hang out the back of it

Glad I'm not the only one that's been caught out. Gap between seats is great if your shopping for curtain poles, not so good for wardrobes.

Thumbs down

Is it because it's an STI and thus has a solid rear bulkhead? Same for Terzos etc. I know, I hated mine for it. Always wished I'd bought a 5 door.

Brendan, I assumed it was all new age cars, didn't know about rear bulkhead. Learn something new every day.

MSP1,

Fixed seats = more rigidity to the frame = better handling. I'm surprised you did not spot this design point before you bought the car.
