Been ringing around for quotes for my sti 5 today and came up with the following prices for a 29 yr old male and 27 yr old female driving a 98 sti 5. both with 1 sp30 each.
3 yrs ncb + 6 yrs company car driving.

bell direct - no imports
footman james - £1600
greenlight - £1500
a-plan - £1000 (£450 excess plus tracker needed)
catterall - no imports
adrian flux - £1100 (£400 excess)

All of the above had large excess and would not protect any no claims.

and the best one i found :-

Barclays direct - £1046
or for £1223 will protect my no claims for 2 years, plus after that two years my company car no claims would become my own (was cheaper to use company car ncb rather than my 3 years).
No tracker needed at outset, plus covers ALL stereo equipment regardless of value providing receipts are kept. Also cover ALL windows in the car, not just the usual windscreen.

Seems like a good deal to me.

Hmmmm.. Barclays Direct would have been the cheapest for me, but as I like to drive other peoples cars was useless - as they DO NOT (or did not 6 months ago) allow you to drive other cars 3rd party which for me, as I'm sure it would be for most people is completely useless.
To protect mine it was only £100 more.
Barclays is a Privelege scheme, but they aree so much cheaper than privelege because they dont allow you to drive other cars
I remember the excess was lowest on my sti 5 with £100.

Greenlight were useless, did not return my calls - TWICE!

Privelege had an excess of £650 - I dont think so!

Best two I found for an sti 5 were:

Supercar insurance - cheapest by £100. They are advertised in the back of EVO - dont know number off hand. Though be arefule as they lied to me - said I had hire car cover for 7 days in the event of an accident - the booklet from them says 24 hours

Second best was Bennetts Elite - may insure with them next year

Dont bother with NFU as your not old enough - they like people who are older than 30, or better still over 140!

Insurance comparison warning!

Recently the STi has been rerated from Group 18 to Group 20. This has been in part led by Norwich Union who insure a good proportion of the UK STi community via various brokers.

This has led to an imbalance of risk in their 'book' and so they have driven prices up considerably. (My renewal was up 80%).

I will continue to utilise OPI who have come up with a block quote which is only 20% higher than last year, including mods/free track days/£500 excess. Over the coming months it will be harder to get a bargain for STi insurance - just keep shopping around.

Cheers,

David
