Did the UK sold MY97 come with CAT1 already fitted because I bought a second hand MY97 from a Subaru dealer and I needed to fit a CAT1 on it? If they did, then have they sold me an import?

Cus, to the best of my knowledge it is not standard. I bought my MY97 (R reg) nearly a year ago and had to pay the dealer £300 to upgrade it to CAT I. My car was a UK supplied one (from the same dealer as I bought it).

I bought my MY97 (R-reg) UK 4 door turbo a year ago. Thankfully the previous owner had a CAT1 alarm fitted a few days after getting the car!

So, no a CAT1 alarm was not standard on a MY97 car!

No, it only came with a then CAT 2 immobiliser as standard fitting.
