Seem to have a problem with my heater/air con. Blows out freezing cold air even when on the 30 degree setting and the engine is hot. If I switch off the air con and fiddle around with the heater ****, it starts to blow out warm air (eventually) and if I switch on the air con then, it works ok but if I stop in traffic or something, the air turns cold again. Any ideas what the **** is wrong?!?!?!
Hi Reddog,
I seem to be having a similar problem (MY02WRX) - only just noticed it myself this morning.
I think I have narrowed it down to the 30 deg setting - the aircon seems to work fine at 29, but 30 sends it down the pan (ie. either cold or no air at all). I let you know if I find anything else out (you too please
)
cheers

Check you don't have a water leak..
sounds to me like no water in the heater matrix...IMHO..
Check the water when engine is cool, little metal container on right hand top of engine.. says on it some warning about not opening when hot..

Hold on a minute!!
You are getting cold air when you switch your aircon on
Isnt that what it is supposed to do???
If you read the users manual you should set your heater control to minimum for it to work ifficiently... why would you want to run your air con hot ie. 30 setting
The reason for it blowing hot n cold is cause the aircon shuts off under boost and then cuts in again off boost ie. in traffic...

I know this doesn't answer the question but this is how the heater control is supposed to work on MY01+:
The range between max/minimum marked temperature will act as a temperature control and turn the heater on/off to maintain the selected temperature.
Beyond the min temperature will pump cold air/beyond max temperature will pump hot air, no matter what the temperature inside the car.
Sounds like you have a faulty connection in the switch somewhere.
PS Sorry if you have an older model that is not supposed to work as above.

tweenierob: When you switch the air to clear the screen then the A/C comes on no matter what the temperature setting. Far quicker de-misting than without A/C.
I can't understand why anyone would want their car to be at 30 C, the plastic will start melting
You should run the aircon for a few minutes each week to lubricate the seals and prevent drying out and eventual failure. In the winter this means hot.

It's not just my air con, it's the heater as well!!! It was working fine until a couple of days ago. I've checked everything I can think of and it seems to be ok and I can't find a leak. 30 degrees is a lovely temperature (I feel the cold!!!) Anyway, just tried it and it seems ok but no doubt it'll play up again tonight when I want to warm the car up!
Are you sure you checked you had water in the radiator????
Sounds to me like you have an air lock... in the heater matrix..
If it is a newish car and still under warentee then take it in and get them to check..

Yes, I have water in the radiator! The car is a 94, so not new. It has a warrenty but I won't hold my breath in anything being done on it.
