Just rung to see how much extra I would have to pay for an sti rear spoiler in place of my high livel one...£160 what a cr4p joke
they reckon its cause the spoiler is likely to get nicked...I said but my EXCESS is more the the spoiler anyway if it did get nicked I wouldn't claim..
I'm fuming, its NU direct by the way. AHHRRGG

Have you paid the extra? If not get a quote from your dealer for a new standard spoiler, then explain to the insurers that your new spoiler is cheaper than the old one! Should help matters, also if it is not an actual STI spoiler but a Scoobymania or DRM spoiler, say that it is a Scoobymania or DRM spoiler etc, and that you prefer the look! Any mention of STI and they like to bounce the premium up!

I asked how much it would be to fit a "different" spoiler to my car, she came back with £160 I complained and asked her to check with the underwriter, she asked the specific model, I said an STi type, she went away 5mins later came back, £160
What p*sses me off is that they only charged an extra £50 for a full ss system and 17" alloys, now they just got my £800 renewal for a year they can take the p*ss.
The car does approx 8 miles a day, parked in a secure car park at work, then home and straight in my locked garage.
Itsa craazy

The way privilege do it is that they have 2 scales, one for "significant" bhp related mods and one for other mods (e.g., body kits, suspension, etc., etc)
It's a scale, of rates, something like 5% for 0-£1000, 10% for £1000-2000 and 20% for £2000-5000 and 25% for 5K+
So once you do the full prodrive (non-engine) thing of suspension, alloys, external body kit and fit a decent stereo, you're already at 5K so it doesn't cost anymore !

It's not just the price of the spoiler. They also take into account the fact that they don't sit there trying to take the spoiler off nicely by undoing the bolts.
They tie it onto the back of a Land Rover and rip it off. That tends to leave quite a bit damage.
Ok So it might not be a Land rover.. maybe a corsa.

My insurance co said that i could not fit a high levle spoiler from a MY 00 car, end of story, they said anything that changed the look of the car would void the insurance, I said it was a genuine scooby spoiler, I was then informed that 93 cars had low levle spoilers, and mine must have a low levle spoiler as well, but then they only charged me £50 for an exhaust, induction kit to be added, I dont like insurance companies, or there methods.

Frightning! Disgraceful! U.K insureres are pants, and are always looking for vapid excuses to bleed the average punter dry. Over here in Fin, you tell them what the car is, the bhp, how many moose you've avoided and that's about it. I called for a quote on an Alfa 146 a while ago, over in the U.K. Apart from the ridiculous number he gave me, the chap wanted to know my inside leg measurement, blood type, and how many hairs on my butt! Outragous!
