Whats with this new warranty clutch clause??

Seen the advert for the great fugly sell off and am temted - but does anyone know why the warranty now specifically excludes clutch plate problems for the MY02??
Have clutch warranty pay outs got so bad that IM wish to put their heads in the sand over it and pretend it never happens/ is the owners fault as from Oct 2002?
