Cool

Mik,

Had a look at the website. Seems cool for the price, but that's excluding VAT and fitting.

Both Superchips and Van Aaken will give me about 370-380ft lbs for a similar price!

Matt ~ Furry muff!

The $300 + VAT works out approx £220. "Fitting" is removing and replacing your ECU, so if we can convince the guy to come over again, and you can manage that yourself....

Van-Aaken and Superchips don't get close to Upsolute for my car (in terms of power/torque increase), and were £550+vat+fitting and £480 inclusive respectively.......

To be honest, I'm wary of superchips after comments both on Scoobynet and TDIClub.

If you can get double the increase for double the money though, I guess that makes at least "as much" sense!

I looked at the Van Aaken or Superchip mod for my 330d, BUT no matter how it is done (even reprogramming ECU) BMW dealer will discover it as soon as they service the car and officially cancel warranty

A friend with a 530d did it, had his car serviced then 10 days later got a letter from BMW UK informing him that his warranty was void

Mark Underwood (WoW) had the Van Aaken chip on his Audi TDi and does rate it extremely highly, but it was just too much of a risk for me

Gary,

If that's the case, then the car stays standard!

I was under the impression that by re-mapping the standard ECU, the return codes that the diagnostic equipment reads at service stayed the same. Still, that might just be a bit of spiel to ensure that I actually buy the chip!

If there is any chance of invalidating the warranty, I'll give the chip a miss

Question

Not sure about BMW ~ would need to ask Upsolute direct....

Their remaps are certainkly "invisible" to VAAG diagnostic equipment......

Their customer support is (reputedly) excellent, and remaps come with warranty....along the lines of "if XXX find your chip and refuse your warranty claim, we will step in"....

Matt - My sentiments entirely The 330d had its ECU remapped to make it 'invisible'

MIK - with modern 'plug-in' diagnostics, nothing is invisible to the dealers service department. BMW could even tell me how many times I had filled my washer bottle (or at least how many times the low washer bottle light had come on)!! Big brother is watching!!

So are you saying that this business will take over my full BMW warranty?? They will put ANYTHING that goes wrong with my car after fitting the chip? (given BMW invalidate the entire warranty) and they can do all this AND the chip for a couple of hundred quid? 3rd Warranty companies usually want £5-800 for am insurance backed 3 year warranty alone!!! Do you have this in writing? or is this just marketing spin??

What car do you have that cost £650 plus fitting for superchips/Van Aaken? and what power gains? Last time I looked all the VA kit was almost identical pricing, with the BMW 3litre d being one of the most expensive at c£400 full incl.

Oh and its VAG not VAAG and they are as on the ball if not more so than BMW with ECU diagnostic. VW could tell a neighbour has been using SUL just from the ECU

I think this probably varies by make/model.....not all dealers can tell if you've really cut down to 10 a day by how many times you've pressed the ciggy lighter.

They provide "Full warranty for the tuningchip, for the installation and for your cars engine and gearbox without an additonal charge".
I have not tested this, but it's on their website. They are obviously confident that their chip will not cause any issues.....and (as far as VAG are concerned....not sure about others) that dealers are tres unlikely to find your chip. I have seen additional comments (in writing on their BBS & TDIClub BBS) that if dealer finds chip, blames chip, and refuses warranty claim, then Upsolute will cover it using independant specialist.

Like I said, I've never personally tested their claims.....but that is what they say.

Car....SEAT Leon TDI 110 (which I don't have yet incidentally). Don't have all details to hand at the moment, but approx numbers....
Superchips wanted £480 all in for 130bhp, 198lbs.ft.
Van Aaken wanted £550+fitting for 135bhp, 203lbs.ft
Oettinger wanted £800+ all in for 130bhp, 210lbs.ft
Upsolute want $300 for 143bhp, 215lbs.ft

Thanks...I always get that wrong!

That doesn't really surprise me, but it doesn't mean the VAG1551 (VW diagnostic equip)can detect a remap.
Maybe your neighbours car is a diesel?

PS I don't have anything to do with Upsolute, and if I thought my entire warranty was likely to be invalidated then I would be wary too.
