From Auto Express:
VW Beetle RSi
Move over Herbie! Volkswagen has built a new
high-performance Beetle, and this time it means
business. Unlike Disney's automotive screen star of
the Seventies, the RSi edition of the Bug has more
than a set of stripes and a number to get itself
noticed, as we found out when we got behind the
wheel of the first model to be imported into the UK.
With its concept-car looks and a powerful 225bhp
3.2-litre V6 engine, the newcomer promises to leave
its film-star predecessor in the shade. Using similar
ingredients to those which created the £25,995
Renaultsport Clio V6 and £54,000 Nissan Skyline
GT-R, the RSi is a mobile advertising hoarding for
VW's Beetle-based motorsport efforts, as well as its
craftsmanship and imagination. To maintain
exclusivity, numbers will be limited to only 250
worldwide. Forget everything you associate with the
standard car, and prepare to be amazed. This model
was imported by Listers Volkswagen of Coventry
and, commanding a price of £50,000, it's clearly not
for those on a budget.
