What are M reg Escort cossies worth??

Does anyone know of any Escort cossie's slightly cheaper, or even 2 Door scoobs that are uk (insurance ) give me a tinker!!

Stick with the scoob, a cossie is a nice looking car but god, id hate to have to see you trying to fix it on a daily basis (thus the reason it has a F.O.R.D badge on )
Seems expensive thou and its going to be more in the insurance dept

20K! Blimey, that must of been immaculate.

A local prestige car place to me had a P plate Escort Cossie Monte Carlo with a total of 5000 miles on it (this was registered to a Royal Family) and its price tag was 23k.

Perhaps a little steep, check the auto trader or speak to the lads and lasses over on the RS owners board, they know their stuff

It really makes my a r s e tense, when people continually slag cossies for being unreliable!!!! These are obviously people that know **** all about Cossies or performance marques in general. If you wanna look at reliability, you need look no further than the marque this BBS is geared towards!!!!!! For a company that has produced a production car with inherent engine faults, can hardly be classed as reliable!!!

A Cosworth engine and running gear is one of the strongest 2litre machines that has ever been produced. The fact that these can breakdown is soley the fault of a combination of old age (in some cases) and BAD maintennace (in most).

As an Escort is the newest reincarnation, I would not expect this to be as much as a problem.

20k is way too much for an Escort. Expect to pay about £14,000-£16,000 for a very good low mileage small trubo one (post L reg) and between £12,000-£16,000 for a large turbo.

The large 'un being the better car that holds it value better (considering it is of an older engine type).

If you want any more serious info, fire away.

Regards,
Shaun.

ok ill put one of these on next time then
Yes the cosworth is a very strong engine but like you say Shaun, most are knackered due to bad maintenance, which is a shame as when you do get a mint one they really are good cars but........ it still has a ford badge on it

Would you believe 12 grand - forecourt price - for a 95M lux, mind you this is for average mileage which is double that of the one you've seen. However I've yet to see one advertised that matches the guide price but they must be out there somewhere.

Hello Pete. I have owned 1 3dr cossie 1 2wd sapphire 2 4x4 sapphires and 2 escort cossies they really are good cars. However 20k for a M reg is really dear. I sold an aurais blue with every option 26k and a cos no.plate for 19k last october. I was at ford fair yesterday and there were two p reg aurais blues 1 for £16250 with 26k no leather, and another with all options for £19000 with 40K.

I am currently driving a scooby and I think they are great. Cossies are reliable also, but if you are considering one then beware there is some speculation that when the Focus RS comes out next Feb ish then the escort prices could suffer. At about 23 grand ish the Focus seems quite good value.

Ronaldo they only made a monte in 1994 so they are only on a L or M plate, so if this IS a P reg it must have been held back and registered late.

Anyway happy hunting

Jason

Cool

Peter,
I said it may be less of an issue!!!!

I bought mine for £16000 last year and to be honest it's still worth around that figure now, but mine is a LARGE TURBO L Regger, air-con, electrics, sun-roof, leather, twin-airbags, FORD CD/Radio Cassette and less then 45,000 miles. And most importantly is straight!!!!!!!

Be VERY careful in buying one as the lower priced ones can be right snotters. Buy the best available (has ALL the extras on) and your money will be safe.........above all make sure it's a Large Turbo.

Don't worry about the new RS Focus coming out effecting prices, thats tosh. The RS focus is a Cosworth FWD wannabe and out of all the Cosworths the Escort is undoubtadly the most unique and wanted. There exclusitivity has kept prices rock solid. Take a look at 3 door sierras (rare) and RS500's (rare), they are still requiring approx £8-9,000 for the sierras and £12,000+ for the RS500's...............and these are D and E reg cars!!!!!!! (The Escort Cosworth never effected there prices!!).

Shaun.

Talking

Just had a look at a couple of ads in our local autofreebie mag one was @ £14,995 for 95M on 36k miles, seemed a more reasonable price.

I would say residuals (sob sob) will be better with cossie's than impreza, there are fewer of them and RHD ones can't be imported in vast numbers from anywhere (unlike imps), that said an M reg impreza with 30k on the clock would cost under £10k...

So good luck, how about an Audi Quattro? Harry Metcalfe's is in Evo @£9,500 this month!

Sorry guys having ownede a small and a large turbo the small is by far the best. Easier to drive in traffic and with hardly any lag.
Only people that want to mod them buy large turbos because they're more tuneable. Having said that with a chip, Gp A fuel pump and a stainless exhaust I had 292 BHP from a small turbo model and that was still with the cat on.

I second Shaun as a fellow RSer - if you do look at an Escort Cosworth only go for the big turbo with all the extras as they are the only ones which are holding their money and will give you a good resale value.

Regarding the £20K issue, it depends what model you have looked at and also the mileage/condition because low milers and examples that are A1 can fetch the asking price of that figure. Also bare in mind that the later models are favourable.

As for being unreliable - absolute tosh

The other distinct advantage is that an Escort is easily modified to big bhp and will remain reliable where as a Subaru engine will not

I found my dream Escort Cossie last night!

All I have to do is sell mine because its private.

Its L Reg, Big Turbo, and it is 380bhp

The current owner has had it for 5 years, and needs to sell to make room for an Audi TT. Its a LUX with all the Extras and pretty low mileage, 40k.

What do you all think! The engine has been properly done by GHS i think, it has been in a magazine and it was 0-60 in 3.75.

Check the specification and make sure it has been done properly i.e: at over 350bhp it should have had uprated pistons, clutch and so on...

Hi M8, watch out for Audi quattros, the original ur quatro is afine car if you have the finance to support it, great looks and good residuals, having owned one you have to watch out for knackered exhausts, cracking manifolds, oil cooling pipes, torsen diff at about 1700 quid, and dodgey gear box rebuilds. but id still have one on my drive again ti look at as i miss mine, it only went 2 months ago. boo hoo. Cool

As per any car Pete, get it HPi'd, in the early days of cosworths there was a company that leased them (sierra cossies) they had either 130 or 170, i cant remember off the top of my head but out of the lot of em, only about 10 were never broken into/stolen thus the way with performance cars.
Watch out for nice plumes of blue smoke from the exhaust too on downing gear, ive seen many a cossie do that (valve seals?) and i dont care what anyone says, its not a characteristic as ive seen better cars that dont do it. Just check the usual, gearbox, clutch, brakes (uprated i hope!!) if its been doing 3.75 0-60's then its going to have been hammered a little and is the owner a member of the RSOC? Better if he is, means that hes probably done everything by the book to his car
Take out a warranty too if possible, for 400 a year its better than paying 5k on a new engine if it does go (and yes they do go, i know someone with a sierra cossie with a proper 350bhp conversion that went pop when he started it in the morning only 60k on the clock too, ouch!! but now he spending the 10k to upgrade it to 500bhp )
Hope you enjoy it Pete

All cars with the mileage that cossies now have will inevitably smoke to some degree if they haven't been maintained 100% - this is not a characteristic of just the Cosworth, there are many a smokey Scoob now; we have them here at work.

If you can find anyone that will give you a warranty on a heavily modded cosworth then all the best to you - they don't like them very much

im sure i read in an old magazine article regarding a shoot-out between escort cossie, impretza, celica gt4,lancia integrale.that servicing for a main service was £150 for the cossie but £450 for the scoob!!! which amazed me.

You ARE joking right? £23k for a FWD Hatch - good value?? You are exactly the person Ford is hoping for

At £18-19k it would have been good value - at £23k it is £7000 - 45% more expensive than the new Civic Type R. Racing Puma Mk2 anyone??

Anyway - back on topic. Good luck with the Cossie Pete, I know many people that owned them mid-90s and loved them. Just get any car well checked (paperwork and engine wise) esspecially if it has had a 80-100% power hike
