Yeah I know another useless survey but what the hell, I find it interesting:
What would you pick the ultimate but used 22B or a new M3?

I'd pick:

I don't care much for luxary, and the 22B is so special and raw...

Me? I would have the 22... Who wants to be just another 3 series ar5eole... albeit the Kings Road, Chelsea version!

At least the 22b is a little bit more unusual.

I think you have to see a 22b to appreciate it. It's not all about figures (but they are good too, even in standard form).

Spend some money on brakes, maybe a few engine tweaks, hmmmm.

M3 is good though, don't discount it because it's "just" a 3 series saloon with wide arches. Sounds gorgeous, very raw.

Brand new STi Prodrive and loads of money left for mods.
Or if Co.car new M3. Local dealer had a 22B nice but not 30k plus nice, and insurance is a nightmae aswell. P1 another option and also loads left for mods.

Hmmm.... interesting and timely. I was lucky enough to drive a new M3 on Saturday. I was I'm afraid to say a little dissapointed. Yes, it looked the nadgers and the interior was nice (seriously nice adjustable seats), but I felt it was all a little erm, unemotional? Just lacking something. I have driven a couple of 22B's and they were just so much more fun and raw.

The M3 felt deceptively quick and very smooth but just lacked that little something.... would love it as a company car (TT currently) for looks, presence and comfort/performance.

Admittedly I did not give it a real thrash as I had the sales guy in there. Would love to really drive one for a decent length of time.

I have driven the new M3 but unfortunately not the 22B.
Whilst the beemer was very comfortable (great seats) and has a lot of little electrical toys, people looked at me like I was just another rich-kid who was bought it by daddy. The looks of the 22B far outweigh that of the M3 and it's more individual.

22B for me.

Anyday.

22b without even thinking. Far more exclusive and people won't think I'm a status obsessed arsehole with scant regard for the M3s engineering quality.

The 22B just looks like the daddy to me.

I would look at how well the 22b has and will hold its price. There's not much out there with such a good residual.

I would be tempted by an M3 nut the looks and respect a 22B gets wins hands down.

I would never want to spend that sort of money on a car...

but in a few years time when I am looking for a new car and there is an M3 with 100k miles for 8k and a 22B also with 100k miles for 8k.. I'd take the 22B...

The less build quality and toys is made up for by the exclusivity and the drive etc..

best thing I love about the 22b is the lack of image.

trouble is its going downhill. It is the most agressive looking standard car in real money terms I can think of, yet people look at it as a boy racer mobile.

Driving round london, people are more likely to laugh than be impressed, which I semi prefer, but I would rather they just saw it and thought impreza than thought boy racer.

Near where I live flash cars ar ten a penny. The M3 is staple diet for the young rich kids, and their daddies drive 911 turbos or vanquishes.

I saw 5 murcielagos last week all in one day all in one road!

In terms of individuality, knowing what I know, I much prefer it, but dont expect it to have that effect on others. The most common comments I get are, "it looks like the batmobile!", or "you could have bought an m3 or a boxster", or the worst one ever, "what, you could get an slk for that!".

you have to rise above such comments and remember why you are choosing the car.

I would love an m3, but to me, in ten years time it will be lost in the history of m3s, one of the many 3 series variants. It is an awesome car, but I dont believe it has the soul that I am after. There are probably around 400 22bs now in the whole world, there are probably around 1000 m3s in north west london alone.

I like the individuality, but it is only me and the select few on here who appreciate it. In short you buy these for yourself, not impress others.

you mean the 22B looks the same as all the other scoobies, except the wide arches which you will only find on the 22b and the classic shape WRC cars. 3 door scoobs are also very rare, being limited to only the STI type R (not the regular STI) and P1.

It takes looking at one for real to appreciate the difference.

bit daft to own a 22b for its image as no one outside of scooby net will think it looks any different to any other jap thing.

Sorry to be predantic(sp?) Pavlo but you mean 2door rather than 3..

The 22b in the picture on page 1 looks a darker colour than the one I looked at at the Motorshow in 98?? did they change the colour or have I remembered it wrong, or a trick of the light?

I seem to have forgotten how many Supra's have won a rally??

Oh thats right none because they are a different type of car and set up for a different type of road/track/circuit..

Racing a Scooby in a Supra in a straight line is the Supra's home ground but the Scooby is more for twists..

Think the Supra is a lovely car but in a different way to the Scooby.. My MR2 turbo managed to keep up with Scoobies in the twists and straights as long as the road was dry, although I was driving the nuts off it and my mate was hardly having to work... the Supra is a heavier car even than the MR2 so I am sure if you show it some decent twists it'll be quick through them but not Scooby quick.. IMHO..

I don't understand the relevance of your post other than to try and cause an argument that so far has failed.

There is a lot of narrow mindedness on here but what does everyone expect.. it is a Scooby discussion forum after all..

You might find a bit of a bad response if you posted on Man U's discussion forum whether Man City were better than Man U?

Personnally I'd prefer the 22b but then if I was spending 30K+ I'd test drive them both and give it a lot of thought..

Thing is can you get my trailer and family in your Supra and go away for a weeks camping?

I can't believe people are even contemplating this......I don't think I have ever seen a 22b on the streets. Lost count of how many M3's I see on the way to work every morning. 22b very expensive for what it is but thats what you pay for exclusivity.
All IMHO obvously.

Asked myself this very question not long ago. Now ordered an M3 cabriolet with AC Schnitzer mods. Hate to say it but I just can't hack doing 35,000 miles a year in the EVO/Imprezza cabin any more.

As I've said before even though both are serious drivers cars they approach it in very different ways.

Off thread, funnily enough I managed to spec a Warrender WRC320 Impreza to £40k plus trying to get the interior and gadgets up to the M3 levels. Then we looked at the residual values!!!!!!!!!!
