Picked up the WRX on Saturday, complete with noisy exhaust.
Even running in it does the business, particularly the narrow and windy fell roads. Makes me smile, big styleI look forward to completeing the running in, then extracting a few more BHP...
It has been christened Fugly, cos it is, and I don't care.

Dealer said 5000, book says 4000. I'm treating it gently - 5k, but no labouring, heavy throttle or constant revs.
Colin.
Dealer also said a lot of people don't run in for more than 100 miles, and it doesn't appear to do any harm. I'm not sure I buy that...

My dealer told me not to redline and labour the engine and warm it up gently. I stuck to 4K for the first few hundred by the time I had the 1000 service I was occasionaly hitting 5,000 just when the engine was really warm and never held high revs. Just be sensible and dont come out of the garage after the 1000 service and redline it, build the revs up over the next 1000 miles at least. If the car is standard then not much point in going over 6K on a UK anyway unitl it either it starts breathing better and/or has loosened up.
