I am near Guildford & wondered if anyone can recommend a garage to carry out a major service (30k) & let me know what the going rate is for this type of service.

You have a couple of nearby options to you there.

You have Park lane in Alton, good reputation. Perhaps not the cheapest around.

SAS in Aldershot, pretty good rep (worked on my sti5 several times and always did well) definately not cheap with a labour rate of £55 per hour.
