I'm in. 20 plus appears better!

Jza, we all know they might be illegal this summer but we are buying them to protect our licences whilst we are breaking the law!! Get my drift. They were illegal a few years ago but surely Plod has to PROVE you were using it.

I'd be interested aswell but as per Jza I'm worried about the change in law.
They say that it would be illegal to have it 'installed' aswell as use it. Depending on what 'installed' means it could be that having it stuck to the screen would be illegal and they are talking about big fines I think. It might be best to wait and see what happens!

Matthew, yes they are UK supplied (next day delivery)

I don't have anything to do with the company involved just phoned up and enquired about a deal, but was pleasantly surprised by the discount offered. As for future legislation?

I have seen several tests on the valentine one which say it good, simliar in performance to the bel 980, but technology has moved on twice possibly three times since then. It also doesnt pick up ku band, is much more expensive and is geared towards the american market, hence the display points towards the left hand side.

Adam m, i have just spoken to the supplier about the 590R, they inform me that the 590R will be a re-packaged 966R to bring it in line with the rest of the EURO range, it is a fully installed unit and does not have laser detection

interested so far:-

PCB - confirmed

I've had a euro550 for over a month and recommended it to paulmon..

All I can say is that the unit is superb, does tend to pick up clutter when in town even on city mode.. The best tactic is that anything over a 3 on the strength meter warrants caution..

Paid for it'self already...

Doing a "little" over the max on a nice dry flat dual carridge the other day when the unit screamed LASER LASER as a came around a gentle curve in the road, what do you know but a young lady with a tripod mounted laser camera in the far distance (well over 3/4 mile away)... never would have seen her until up close as she was dressed in green/brown clothing - suspicous I think...

Just past her on the roundabout was a nice collection of traffic police gaily filling up the forces coffers with all the drivers they just caught... Needless to say without the euro550 I'd be walking a little more than usual now..

Little smillie to the copper as I drove by made it feel even better...

The legality aspect doesnt concern me so much. Before you commit, could you ask the company if they know anything about the 590r. I think it may be a potential new top of the euro rnage and want to know what difference it makes.

Thanks[/quote]

I am due to take delivery of the 550 tommorrow. I will post my comments and views after the weekend.

Adam,

This months EVO has a test on the 550, and like you I'm interested depending on the 590r?

Has anyone thought about a Valentine One, the only down sdie is the cost as in the EVO test they were quite impressed with it apart from the cost.

Ga22or,

How's things. I finish at AZ on Thursday, off to pastures new and all that. Glad to hear the 550 is upto it's £400 billing.

I got done last week on the M56. 89 in a 70, so I can expect a nice fine a 3 points. The funny thing about it was that it was at 17:10, probably the most hectic part of the day. I'm sure I would have had traffic in front and behind me. I guess the copper thought 'We'll have this fella here in this flash blue thing with the big spoiler on the back'.

Hey Ho

I bought a Bel 550 about 3 months ago.
It is my first radar detector and I am pretty pleased with it so far.
Initially I was a bit put off by the fact that it is next to useless when in town/city centres, but when on the open road it's brilliant.
It has given me sufficient warning against Gatso's and radars (although I have only come up against one radar in 3 months!).

In an ideal world you would have a radar detector and the Geodesey (spelling?) unit but that IMO is a little expensive! (£700+)
I personally think that the function that the Geodesey offers will be available on in car sat nav units in the near future.

In regard to detectors becoming illegal, I'm not too bothered! Simply disconect it if you get pulled over!

Andy.

p.s. I paid £329.99 for my Bel 550 from

Just caled these people, and they are saying one off price is £350 and group price about £320 which isnt cheaper.

Does someone else want to try them. £30 per unit off not much when you buy 20.
