Question

Hi all - anyone any idea of the price of an Alternator for an Impreza??

The old Escort cabriolet has just had a new one put on today - £39:99!!!!! I just cannot imagine these little numbers!!

Why?? what is the meaning of life??

Scoobs are so reliable you'd never need to buy one - so they don't sell 'em!

Seriously, £40 sounds like a bargain. I bet one for a Scoob is at least five times that!

Cheers,

Ian.

The XR BBS reckons that the scoobie would never need one too!! as the Japs have electrics very much sorted!

The betting is on at £500 !!!!!!????????

The cost to make the £39:99 one will be only a few pounds different than the Scoobie one - its all about 'percieved value' and 'how much can we get away with?'

I would love an accurate price if anyone knows!?

Blatant plug, but my dad recons starters and alternators for a living.

He retails Scoob alternators at £95.00 - so don't get too depressed.

If (when!) you need one, e-mail me!

£40? Yikes thats expensive!
I used to run my XR2 on scrappie parts (apart from the modded bits). £25 was nearer the mark then (refurbished ) but I bet they give the stuff away nowadays

Thanx all - spudgun, yes the cabriolet is giving loads of fun!! 36mpg, no boy racers, just gently cruising around!

All this in a car that will have cost the sum total of £0, yes NIL pounds, when I sell it in Autumn!!

The Alternator went last Sunday on the way home from the beach, so I had to use the Impreza during this last week, let me tell you something - that hesitation is so evident when you have not had to drive around it for a week ....... I caught myself thinking, "I would rather drive a 14 year old Escort than this!!" - I cant put my finger on it, but the Impreza is NOT the best car in the world (now, I KNOW that will dick people off on here who think it is) - but there we go.

I am thinking of buying a VW Passat - and mellow down in my old age, maybe a TDi? imagine 60mpg?? HEAVEN!!!

I'll let you kiddies race past me at some breakneck speed, I will pass you at the petrold station - or at the police speed trap!!

Hi Pete,

I heard £470 for a new one

Ian E,

Scoobs so reliable?!?!?!?! What the hell are you on m8????

I have an MY00 which I have owned from new for 15 months!!!! New turbo at 1k now the gearbox has gone and it is out of warranty because it is from Holland even though they are all made in the same place.

I will never buy another. I found out today that it wil need a rebuild or a replacement. Pete at Scoobysport has found me a 2nd hand box at £1057 inc vat for replacement

I am told my box has gone due to a manufacturing defect. These cars are ****e.

Scotty pissed off yet again

I hope they make gold wheels for the passat, I know that is your favourite colour

Wouldn't belive that 60 mpg for the passat though, we have a sharan TDI at work which averages 22mpg around town and 27mpg on a run, I know it is big and heavy, but I am just not sure these TDI's are as ecomical as the claims!

Thanks Russ - not sure whether failing Alternators are a 'FEATURE' of the Impreza yet so will wait and find out

I had a VW Passat TDi a while ago as a company car for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed it - it was when I was changing my car, but I desperately wanted an Impreza - so the Passat lost out. I have to say that I needed to get the mad Impreza Turbo thing out of my system but having done it - I wish I was sitting in a smooth running Passat now!

Scotty,

Just my experience.

I had a MY1997 and did 20000 miles with the only problem being the rewind button on the radio cassette.

My current Dutch Import MY2000 is 15 months old and has done 11000 miles and has been perfect...so far (touching wood!). How many miles has your car done and is the gearbox manufacturing defect common?

Cheers,

Ian.

Ian E,

Sorry to sound so negative yesterday but I had my reasons

My car has done 19k and the gearbox problem is too regular to be a coincidence according to Pete at Scoobysport. Apparently the big nut on the mainshaft is not torqued dowm properly on MY00's

I also had a noisy blow off valve due to main dealer putting too much oil in I sorted that myself because main dealer could not hear it but everyone else could Same old story.

Scotty

PS: My MY98 was perfect and not a fault or rattle at 26k. biggest mistake of my life getting rid of it for this I will never buy another. Subaru should have it right by now. They have their heads shoved too far up their own *****.

(IF THEY READ THIS EXCELLENT WEB SITE IT WOULD GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THEIR CUSTOMERS SATISFACTION NO END! LIKE ANY SUCCESSFUL AND DEDICATED, CARING BUSINESS WOULD )
