I'm just about to embark on the bigger brakes route and was wondering the same over the weekend.

The answer is logical really isn't it!

Thanks Chuck

Question

Just a thought, I have got 17 inch wheels and the AP 4 pot kit with 330 mm disc's.

If I had to use the space saver in the boot due to a flat tyre would it fit over the discs and would the ride with 3 17's and one 16 mess the geometry up?

I am sure there are lot of you out there that have upgraded brakes and not thought of this problem!!

(My car is an STI 5 if that makes any difference to the type of spare supplied).

If you get a front flat you will need to shuffle the wheels. Take a 17" off the back and put it up front, put the space saver on the back, where it will fit. And only drive as far as you really need to (home or a garage), the drivetrain won't like the odd wheel.

Carry a full sized spare. I do.

For the cost it's worth it IMHO

Shark,

What tyre do you use on the full sized spare? I'm thinking about doing this and the problem is that the tyres are directional so, strictly speaking, I would need to carry two spares - which is maybe why Subaru fitted the space saver in the first place.

Raymond,

My full size spare has a PZero on it, and from what I can see there are no directional markings on it.

Cheers

How big a wheel can you fit in the hole in the boot - will a slightly bigger 18 inch fit in there or is the marginally bigger 17inch about as far as it goes?

Presumably those who get punctures on 18inch wheels are totally stuffed?
