Hi.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but hopefully someone will help me out.

I've just got a fair amount from my first modelling job and i'm looking to replace my 206Gti with a Subaru Impreza.

I'm not very mechanically minded so something that's easy to keep would be great.

I'm 19 and live in London with 2 years No claims. So any guesses as to what my insurance would be like would be a real help.

I'd Like A P1 and as I've got 30K to spend is in my price range.

So please let me know what I should be looking for and will I need special training to help me drive such a fast car.

As you can see, i'm not really sure what I want only that I've wanted an impreza since I learned to drive. Please help me

To give you some idea of insurance, a quote that 21 yr old got for a P1 was approx £9500 per annum...

Get yourself a MY'01 Turbo, and the remaining money should cover at least the first years of insurance!

Thank you Dr Evil. £9500 for one year is a lot of money. Why is it so much? I only pay £500 for my 206 Gti.

A dealer near me offered to take me for a ride out in a P1 and refused to let me drive it. So much for service. But I Sooo want one of these cars.

How do you get insurance at 19 on a 206 gti for £500, my missus pays more on a group 7 car at 21!!!

I think insurance would cost me more than £500 pa with full no claims!

Is this a wind up?

My Dad put some towards the insurance on the Gti. But now I can pay my way a little I don't want to ask him for anymore.

What's an MY01? Is that the new bug one?

I'm a little sad to think you think this is a wind up. Do you treat all new commers this way?

You might get insured if your lucky, regardless of price. It would have to be a UK car, imports are definatly out of the window at 19 years old.

When i tried at 22, i got:

"No-one under 25"
"No-one under 30"
"We are over subscribed on impreza's"
"No"
"ha, ha"
"goodbye"
"certainly, i'll just think up a ridiculous figure"
"Ok, what's the most you will pay - sorry, already been quoted"

Eventually got there in the end

Bear this in mind.

Cant be cheap to insure. I paid £2600 a year at 24 (late 96) for a standard uk MY97.

I dont think 9 points helped at the time though.

You would be hard pressed to find an insurance to quote you on a P1 without full NCB. At 19 you are looking at a lot of money. With full NCB I would have thought close to 2K.

One of the guys on here has a website which has a lot of the scooby friendly insurance companies and their phone numbers

If you read on in general you will see a post called P1 for sale.

It might help you, but at your young age stick to the car you have or you might get in lots of deat.
If you stop working, thats if you are working at all,
most people kid a little in here,so watch what you say because i'm
sorry men in here are more grown up and have real lifes. so might not beleave you.

Anyway try this it should help you.

Appologies about the wind up thing, but if I could get insurance for that price I'd love it!

Anyway, in my early 20's I have had £15k insurance quotes before now (stupid really, would anyone pay that £££ for car insurance)!

P1 insurance is likely to be crazy and personally if you can get a good quote on your existing car you maybe as well to keep it for a couple of years (when P1's will be cheap anyway - say £15k or so!).

If you really have money to burn then you can get a used P1 for around £25k now (one just sold in the private section with extras for that). You might be better off with one of the new bug eyed model's I hear the insurance is quite a bit lower (for me would be 30% difference) and with a bit of extra money you good make it look good (see scoobysport car!!) and go faster (Prodrive Performance Pack @£1600 would do the job)

That's a bit harsh Chelsie - and I'm not sure I'd agree with all the men in here being grown up either I know for a fact that Dave has lots of growing up to do

What were you modelling to earn 30k???

I'm definitely in the wrong job.

But anyway, a UK MY00 with PPP and some other goodies will be as quick on the road (duck and cover) and a lot cheaper to insure.

UK MY01 with the Croney treatment will do the same once the PPP is out for that.

I bought my MY97 at 20 and it cost me £1050 to insure before I started Modding it. Privilege are good with youngsters like us.

Most high perfomance dealers only have insurance for test drivers above 25 so the chance of test driving one will be slim.
I bought mine without driving it myself, well I knew what to expect.

As most of us will tell you, buying a Scooby is the cheep bit, running it costs a bomb. I drive mainly local milage and I spend about £150 a month on fuel, and £500 a year servicing.

At 19 you will have no chance insuring a P1, I was quoted £2500 at 21 with 5 years NCD and in a low risk postal code. Look at Standard Turbo UK specs.

Good luck

I'm in a similar predicament.

I'm 93, have just won my first Heavyweight Boxing world championship title, and don't know whether to buy a UK300 or a lear jet? What do you think the insurance would be like?

Cool

If your a model, 19, and earn 30K why not go and ask mr stringfellow to buy you one, insurance would cost you 20mins of your time with him , you could always look for a rich, old man who will buy you anything for a quick legover . I am 23 a legend in my own bedspace so if you want to meet up i will let you drive mine - and the car!!
P.s if this ain't a wind up you shouldn't have mentioned model & 19 in same post!! :

Thanxx for your help guys.

I called around today and the cheapest quote I got was £3000 for a normal UK model. Most companies just politely told me to go away and come back when i'm 25. That's six years away!

My 206 seems so slow and horrible after being in the P1 I don't like driving it anymore.

I saw a lovely bright yellow impreza on the north circular the other day.

Can you buy that colour in the UK?

Should I buy a cheaper car, one of the old square ones for £15000. That leaves me 3 years worth of insurance left over. Should I buy from a dealer, if so which are the good ones. I had lots of trouble with my 206. I wanted a Saxo but the dealers were so patronising I left in disgust. They see a pretty face and think i'm some dumb female who's going to believe everything they say!

Thanks for the offer Paul. I'm currently trying to get a manager who'll handle all that stuff for me. So when it's all sorted out i'll let you know. I don't really want to go posting portfolio's everywhere until I get my manager sorted out. But thanks anyway.

I appreciate the offers for rides. As for the Peter Stringfellow idea UGH! have you seen him in real life! I'm more of a George Clooney kinda gal.

I've managed to find a photo a friend took a few weeks back. After a lot of digging around I found how to post it.

One again your help is very much appreciated(bitchy comments aside). Hopefully I'll be getting rid of the 206 very soon.

It was easy to find. I looked around the site for ages but eventually I found how to do it. I think it was in members gallery or somewhere like that.

I'm off out in an hour or two, so have a good weekend. I will

Firstly - nice piccie , Secondly welcome to Scoobynet.

Lots of advice for you as you have noticed. 6,400 members = 6,400 opinions, some good, some bad. Don't take any of the bad **** to heart - you will get used to it.

My two penneth, for what it's worth, would be to go for a MY01 + PPP and 18" wheels, or a MY00 + PPP (lot's of MY00's around at sensible money now). With what you save - have a few beers and a few holidays.

Be good.

TONY
