Maybe many people can help me with this question. I know anti roll bars minimize body roll. What abt strut brace? What does it actually do? What's the benifit for having one?

It stops the top of the suspension mounts from flexing under cornering / braking - keeps them dead still. This is supposed to make the car handle better (thats as far as my technical understanding goes).

In driving terms there seems to be less "judder" from the front end whilst cornering

Looks good as well.

Rally school type people tend to think they are well worth it - others say the effects are negligable. You can feel the difference tho!!

STI's have them as standard - so must be good!!!

I have a Sparco strutbrace fitted to my 1994 WRX, and the cost was £50.00 - well worth it.

The "turn in" on the car is much improved.

I strongly recommend.

a DIY type job ?

its is a do it yourself job just fits on top the suspension mounts.Undo the nuts that are there on the mounts, slip on your strut brace tighten back up and thats it.
be careful to get one that fits ie does not obstruct bonnet shutting or get in the way of "bits" under the bonnet.
I wish i had put one on when i went off to a track day at curborough,as my mounts have moved a couple of m.m. not caused any handling issues though.
point to note if you do drive it hard get the tracking checked or it'll cost you a fortune in tyres.

I've fitted a strut brace to my RB5. It does make a difference on the cornering. A very easy job to do. I placed a washer between the brace and the nut...why...just did. But you must get your geometry checked afterwards. I has very careful doing mine but it still needed adjustment even though I had only had it done a short time before.

Also they are so cheap (that is if you don't go for a STi carbon one...ouch)

Thanks all, seems like it is a cheap mod to increae rigidness to the body. Give it a better handling. Afraid if its too strong can have side effect of understeering. No?
