Having had the scooby for over 24 hours now I'm somewhat worried about the image it seems to have up here in Scotland with joe public's.

Here's the bit that will hack you lot off....but.....I think the Saxo had a better image!! Everytime I overtake someone in the scoob I get the flashing lights and shake of fists!! For crying out loud, I'm only safely passing these people and I used to do it in the saxo without them flinching. In fairness this seems restricted to vectras/mondeos/bmw's/etc as opposed to good cars like elises, hot hatches, M3's (better than just a BMW), etc

One women actually followed me and took down my plate!!! I used to do some real dumbfcuk things in the saxo and never got this sort of hassle

Not to worry, I like the scooby even if these tw*ts in my rear view don't!

I wouldn't say the Saxo had a better image, it just that it wouldn't be as noticed as a Scoob. I must admit, nowadays everyone knows what a Subaru Impreza is and they generally draw their own conclusions about the driver, rightly or wrongly...

Its the same as what happened to the Cosworth in the early nineties, is a victim of it's own success.

Love mine to bits though, might get a 5dr next time though, slight more of a Q car.

How could you see them shaking their fists in your car andy? You'd need binoculars attached to the rear view mirror the way your car makes ground

If John will permit I'll visit him this week to let him check over the current dawes settings. I've just created a thread in 'general technical' because the boost dropped from 1.1bar in 2nd and 3rd to 1.0bar for no apparent reason. Can't believe how much of a difference that made to the performance!!! Not going to panic......yet

It was 20 minutes ago so it can't be the temperature. Besides I thought that was one of the flaws of dawes (that they didn't drop the boost (like the ECU would) on hot days)?

I really hope the floor mat is to blame!

0.1 bar difference day to day is not unusual, as long as it doesn't stray any further.

Cool, I'll let her warm up tomorrow and give it some from sherifhall on the way to work and see what happens. I had been doing a lot of slow driving with the odd short burst of speed, no doubt there was a lot of heat soak due to the lack of fast moving cold air. Perhaps this was the cause?

Good to see that this happens everywhere then, had exactly the same thing happen to me on Saturday.

Though while I was overtaking the Renault Migrane he decided to stick his right indicator on, which is a little weird as there wasn't a right hand turning so I guess I saved him from crashing into the trees on the other side of the road.

Maybe he just got the wrong stalk and was trying to use the windscreen wipers.

That's the thing though, these are not overtakes for overtakings sake. These are situations where if I pick off a few cars I can cruise at a slightly higher speed and a) get to my destination quicker and b) have fully control over what speed I go (i.e. not dictated by the car in front)

99.9 times out of a 100 I just ignore it. I prefer the Zen method of car comparison.

Just sit back, know you could beat almost any car you come up against and let them get on with it.

I get flashed at when overtaking, usually by the car coming the other way, even though i've a good 30 seconds gap between when I pull in and when they come past.

I don't think it's a jealousy thing, I think that the average Mr Mcgoo driver does'nt expect a car to come past him quite so quickly. Therefore he reacts instinctivley. Don't take it personally, just learn to ignore it and you'll enjoy the car a lot more.

I think thats half of it, for your average megane driver if another megane (or even Saxo) overtook at the speed the scoob does it would of had to have a very long runup / deathwish style. They don't relise how short the TED are on these cars. The other half are those that do know how quick these are and , well realise that they will be stuck behind the caravan for another mile or so - so should you!

Well, I have to say it, if you are abused as often as you say you are, you must be doing something anti-social! I can't remember being waved at or flashed, and it's not as if they can see that I'm older than the average Scoob driver either ("Oh, I won't flash him, the poor old sods having his mid-life crisis") I do overtake by the way, but only if I see it will be of real benefit.
The difference may lie in location. I'm in the south (Essex)where attitudes may well be different to those in bonny Scotland? Or maybe the Scots haven't yet forgiven the Japs for the war!

I was travelling near my house past the local primary school on a Saturday at exactly 29mph. A mother had just crossed the road in front of me with a pram and 2 kids walking, and the 3rd was still on the other side of the road. Seeing this, I back of the gas and prepare to brake (cue popping from the exhaust) she then shouts at child 3 who darts across the road in front of me. I didn't need to brake and he actually made it across the road with no problem (but only because I was going slowly at the time and had already backed off) but guess what?

As I pass them, the mother starts screaming and shouting at me. Apparently, if you're doing less than the speed limit, looking out for potentially dangerous situations and take appropriate action you're a "fukcing lunatic" and a "w4nker".

I blame the Scoobysport exhaust for scaring her

Yep I get the same as Neil S. Coming back down the road from Inverness last week I started to overtake a 406. Beemer coming in the opp direction suddenly decided to floor it for no apparent reason. Suffice to say with all his horns/lights flashing.

...this is not the 1st time I've had hassle with a Beemer. IMO one of the most arrogant types of driver.

Bit risky but I don't intend to have it on forever and I knew as soon as I said manual boost control the insurance women would fall off her seat!

I agree my driving is probably a little more aggresive than most of you lot. After all I'm still young(ish) (23) and the car is still new to me! Got no abuse this morning though

Never had that happen I've had cars speed up when i'm trying to get past before. Not other cars wanting to play 60Mph chicken.

Aftermarket exhaust noise may well have a lot to do with it, all adds to your average numb nuts perceptions of whether you are driving "too fast" or "like a maniac", even if your TED makes the overtake perfectly safe.
Ditto around town. The car with the loud 'zorst and induction kit will turn 10 times more heads even if it is going 10mph slower than the car which preceeded it.

P.S. Always annoying when drivers bunch up as they think just because their car is incapable of overtaking the slow car in front on a straight section, that everyone else should sit patiently behind them as well.

I get the old men standing on the roadside shaking their heads, and giving me a look of disgust. So I usually just give them a little spray with the headlamp washers.

What annoys me is when overtaking on dual carrigeway as it merges into 1 lane. And the arrogent to55er in front decides that he needs to straddle both lanes. Or as you start to pull out to overtake, similar to55er feels the need to brake(hard), turning a nice generous gap to rapidly shrink to a near scrape.

I agree, big sound makes it worse, I also have a personalised plate, which leads to occasional paranioa on my part these days.

And all this is in a Legacy Estate, which is pretty low profile.

I don't even need to mention the ***** that push you along after you overtook them while they were doing 20 below the limit.

I don't think that I've ever had people get angry when I've overtaken them.

But for what it's worth, what I think might be happening to you and it was mentioned above, is the speed at which you are overtaking, can sometimes take people by surprise. One minute there's nothing in the rear view mirror the next minute there's warp factor two overtaking you. The Shock element. The car is quick and a non scoobie enthusiast would not expect it.

When Dick Grimes used to run his driving course he actually suggested that if you are going to overtake that you try to ensure the driver has seen you and is aware of your intention. Coming out of nowhere and leap frogging down the road is probably what is causing the problem.
