I received a call this afternoon to tell me that Jorund had been fataly injured on Sunday riding the Nurburgring. I now sit here totally stunned and unable to put into words how I feel.
I was very privileged to share some time with Jorund at the ring and enjoyed our chats about how bikes and cars compare on track enormously. The highlight of my years on track is the lap we did together last year and how much fun we both had driving/riding, the banter afterwards was fantastic. We had a huge laugh together when we discovered that our video footage found its way onto USA TV on a shopping channel and was being used to sell goods on the other side of the world.
I will always have a copy of that video we made and whenever I watch it I will think of him, especially how he was grinning from ear to ear as we completed the lap side by side.
I will be visiting the ring in two weeks and will pay my respects to Jorund in a personal way then.
I know I will never forget Jorund, he was a very special man and I am a better person for knowing him. May he rest in peace.
John
There is a book of condolence on his website for those who knew him and would like to leave a message for his family.

I know a lot of the guys who go on our trips to the ring have met Jorund, many more have used his superb videos for fun and to learn from so i thought it was apropriate to let people know.
There are many tributes to Jorund on the net, I will pass this onto Ben who was a close friend to Jorund.
Thanks for your kind thoughts.

I heard about Jorund's passing at another (motorcycle) forum where he was a member, his death was a great shock to us.
He died doing what he loved, I hope he felt no pain. RIP Jorund.

The doctor said that he would have felt no pain at all - unconsciousness was instant. He died in hospital at 3am Monday with his wife holding his hand.
There are some messages and photos on my website, together with one last video-clip:

This really brings it home, the reality that someone you know has died.
I love driving and I love the ring, but I will never be a good driver there, as I'll always be backing off to build a bit more safety margin. It's happening to me at UK tracks as well, I guess that I'm losing my bottle.

This really brings it home. I was in constant contact with J over some of the other clips of mine he wanted for his website. As much as I love The Ring and the banter that the bikers and car drivers so often get involved in, I'm starting to wonder whether cars and bikes should be seperated on the track.....

I doubt he will ever be forgotten, although I never knew him, he sounds like a legend in his own right.
Sorry to hear of yours and others' loss John.
May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear this.
I've done some quick laps at the 'ring on a bike and appreciate the danger. Still never prepares you that some people pay the ultimate price for their fun.

Oh dear how very sad, what an absolutely awful loss.
Shocked when I realised who it was, (didn't make the link with his name originally), went to his site today to check for new videos now I have my new bike and there it was..... Dumbstruck.
