Default Mice Chewed Wires

Hi All,

I'm in North Herts, near Stevenage. I went to get my Scooby back on the road after some years stored in a garage, and found that mice have had a right go at the wiring. Anyone able to recommend anyone who would be able to fix the mess left? Also, need a decent scooby mechanic to work on the engine and maybe under the car on brakes which may need a bit of freeing up? I would prefer someone who does not charge garage prices, since it will make the job far to expensive to get back on the road.

Thanks all,

Thomas.

How about a mobile mechanic?

I've tried a few. There is an auto electrician who looks promising for the wiring, but most mobile mechanics don't seem to be able to do all the work I need.

Sounds like we are not that far from each other , soldering is very easy just need to insulate it after , what wires have been chewed engine bay or stuff in the interior , i can give you a local electricians number , brakes wise get the car running if it can be then try and move it off , if it’s been outside no hope if it’s been relatively dry in a barn then some hope , what other issues do you have with the car ?

Is it only in the engine bay? If so would a better alternative be to get a whole engine loom from a breaker?

i’m not sure if the engine bay has its own loom or if it’s all one piece , it’s worth checking , how many wires eaten ?

The complete wiring loom is made in various sections:
Front
Engine
Transmission
Bulkhead (in both engine bay and cabin)
Instrument panel
Roof
Rear (plus boot or tailgate)
Doors
etc.

Cheers Don , so probably safer to get a new loom so you can reduce the risk of missing any damage and have a short circuit somewhere 👍 as a short can be fairly dramatic when you have that many amps in a battery

Depends upon OP's model year and variant.

Hi All, sorry been so busy not had a chance to look at the forum, thanks for the replies.

Mine is a 98 turbo.

VRX 2010, it did just about roll, so managed to move by dragging it with another vehicle, although brakes are tight. They might loosen up if the car was taken for a run and the surface rust is swept off. As for mice, they only seem to have done wires under the bonnet. The battery wires and some of the wires to the head lights, can't see if they have gone through any or the other engine management or alarm wires. If you can give us a recommend for an electrician, I will give him a call.

Thomas
