Default GT spec headers clearance

Just a quickie.

Had a spare hour after work tonight so offered my engine back to the car and found I couldn’t get the headers to clear the subframe front cross member - does the subframe need trimmed or do the GT spec items need fitted once the engine is in? I don’t want to scratch them up ballsing about.

As i recall, i could not remove engine with headers still attached. When installing them, I also had to massage the bar that that goes across behind (or maybe under - my memory is hazy) the radiator.

This was on a 2003 WRX.

Hi Mark

Couple of pics of my set up, I made a series of cuts and then bent the seam back to allow space for the headers.

Not sure if youre still running the undertray or not, but I have a oic of mine where I riveted a piece of aluminium on as a heat shield, hope this helps you

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the pictures Iain.

I’ve removed them now, I’ll stick the engine back in tomorrow night and offer them up to see how much needs trimming. I’m running the undertray and had wondered about how it would be heat wise so I’ll see what sheeting I’ve got lying about.

Are we using the turbo support brackets that bolt to the up pipe flange as the didn’t look too clever when tried to put them on. I think I’d like something there just to take some of the load / movement.
