First time buyers
Was wondering what you would tell people thinking of buying a scooby for the first time. Mine would be prepared to spend some money and time to keep things running smooth and how addictive they are to drive.

Buy a low mileage non Modified Car,
Take a Sti version if you go this route as it will give you a lot more potential,
Or buy a WRX sign up on here within 3 years.fill your head with tips and a box with tools.
prepared to spend the same as you paid for the car for fuel, repairs and modifications to make it go as well as the Sti
Test drive it around a town in traffic and be prepared to be out dragged by TDI
On off performance in particular of 2.0 engine capacities and a single turbo is not to eveyone's taste.
Move to the countryside Enjoy.

All mileage dependant really, but I would be looking for cam belt changes, anything over 80k looking at clutch change, rust around rear wheel arches, burning oil smell from weeping cam cover gaskets, top rad hose change or condition and to make sure the engine is started from cold when viewed and to listen out for bad piston slap or knocking when started. Also listen for knocks from any suspension components.

Cheap to buy,expensive to run......
if you buy the proper sti version and avoid the poverty spec wrx the fuel bill alone will make you realise why most moved onto better things
