Just about to take delivery of Prodrive version of RB5 and am wondering if I should fill it with Super all the time. I see in the RB5 brochure, that it says 95 is OK.
I am right in thinking to use 95 and then every 4 tanks or so to put in some super??
Cheers

I don't think you have to run a PPP on Super, but it is highly recommended! I think I read somewhere (magazine article) that a PPP car ran worse than a standard car when using normal unleaded!
Seems like a waste not to use Super!
Also if you are using normal unleaded the ECU will retard the engine timing, and using super one in four will not really give you any performance increase as it can't advance the timing enough, as then reusing the normal unleaded will retard the timing again.
Just some opions I have read.

Prodrive ask when installing a PPP that the car be delivered to them with at least a half a tank of super unleaded.
After the install you can run the car on unleaded if you wish, but like Andy says it is recommended that you do
Cheers,
Rob.

97/98 & 99/00 Performance package is happy to tun on 95RON, however you may not see the full benefit of the package. You will still get the same %age improvement but we all know the std car goes better on 97RON fuel.
Andy, what you will not get is less performance than std when using 95RON fuel in a performance package equipped car.
My recommendation is run 97 whenever you can find it, particularly when you know you are going to use all the performance, but don't get hung up about using it for 'normal' driving.

Mike,
Thanks for correcting me. I think it was something I read in a car magazine a few years ago! Sorry for providing incorrect information.

i have a my99
Ive been running SUL for the last few weeks.. and NUL before that.
With NUL, I was averaging 26 mpg.
With SUL, I am averaging 28 mpg.
NUL costs typically 77.9 p/litre
SUL costs 82.9 p/litre
That means it cost me 13.6 p/mile for NUL.
And it cost me 13.4 p/mile for SUL.
SO.. get to have faster/smoother car... and SUL even rules cost wise (unless the price/litre gap widens more)

I completely agree with SCOS. I found when using Super regularly I got an extra 40 miles out of a tank which meant it was a lower cost per mile, and it was smoother too.
Other benefit is the higher octain reduces risk of detting, as you're injectors have to do a little less work for the same 'bang'. Good stuff
