HOW TO RE-SET ECU in 2006 STi
Me again. I want to re-set my ECU, to to clear any gunk, and get the car back to its OEM map - and to get her to learn a new driving style (i.e. fast, fast!).
Online vids are saying: disconnect negative battery terminal. Pump brake. reconnect battery. Done.
Is this right? Or is there a tried-and-tested better way?
I want to re-set ECU as I want to know that I've cleared any error codes, and so that the car is tuning in to me running V-Power etc.
I thank you.

I just asked a mate about this, and he said he has a Bluetooth dongle thing. We can plug that in to the port, read off all the various data/figures/boost info - then do a re-set.
I'll either disconnect battery, or try his dingle. Matron.
Thanks for your tips: on the search for East Kent Scoobz!

Negative terminal off pump the brake and leave it for a little while works , the mrs kept starting it using the throttle so ecu ended up not liking it then not wanting to start until ecu was reset

Seriously though - thanks. My mate has a Bluetooth device which can plug into the OBD port and read data/re-set the ecu. That's the job for tomorrow.
Undersealing and fuel filter on the 7th. And then - the quest for some real power!

The ecu reset via a code reader will clear codes but may not clear learned info in the ecu , i would look to see if you have any codes clear them then do the reset , the foot on throttle thing, the car before was a mazda and that appeared the only way to start it .. maybe , the fsti or for that matter any subaru / modern car does not like foot on throttle starting , after the battery reset route cars running a lot better now even for its mileage , code reader on ebay about 20£ or so

Update - of sorts.
We have used 'Torque (Lite)' OBD checker: basically an OBD Bluetooth transmitter sending data to a phone app.
Made for some interesting nerd action. Main findings: no boost leaks, and hitting 14+ psi: in line with stock set-up.
