Question wrx sti import advice

Hi guys, I'm new here and looking for a bit of guidance if possible...

I've always wanted a Scooby and I'm finally able to make this happen. I think I've settled on a wrx sti v6 import as my weapon of choice... and I think I would prefer it being unmodified

I have looked around a lot of the import sites and found a few examples...

http://www.japimportcars.co.uk/cars/...ition/141618/0
I like this one but it looks to have had a few mods (nothing listed) and I can't find much info on the Company. Also a bit far away for me

https://www.motor-hub.co.uk/used-car...01712051829529
I like this minus the tints
https://www.motor-hub.co.uk/used-car...01710260668723
Similar example
I've read a lot about Motorhub including on these forums and people seem to have had mixed experiences with them

Anyway, I was just looking for some general advice really on 1) the car and 2) using one of these Companies

I've looked at insurance quotes for the car and they don't look too bad at all

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

My car came from Hurst and it's spot on. They are far from the cheapest but they bring over good stuff. I put mine in for a cambelt at the weekend and the garage said it was spotless underneath without a single dot of rust - and did I want to sell it.

Anything from Keighley should be avoided from what I have read

Thanks very much guys - I will definitely keep an eye on their stocklist. Worth paying a bit more in the long run!

Unless you know what you are looking for I would avoid all those sellers you are interested in.
Make sure you read up as much info on the car/model you want beforehand and go armed with all of this, model numbers, gearbox and engine codes as it can be a minefield of differences....especially if someone is marketing something for what it isn't! I suggest if it's an import you use CARVX to check the Japanese history and everything matches up, all you need is a vin number.

Max at Hurst is good, I would happily buy off him again but still I suggest you go with as much knowledge as possible once again.

I don't know much about the later GC8's but plenty of knowledge around here, spend as much as you can afford and it should be fairly easy to see if something has been looked after and money spent in the right areas.

Good luck in the search

Speak to Torque GT or Brave Auto.
Top quality outfits and well established.

I used Torque GT to import my hawk sti and I was so happy with the whole process, admittedly it takes a bit of time but Darren is great to deal with and you won’t be disappointed

Thanks a lot for all the replies - really helpful!

Guy Francis certainly seems to have a really nice example at the moment - it's a lot pricier but from the photos at least you can see why (and vs. the likes of MotorHub at least goes to the effort of a decent description!)

Kev, very good advice - I've been trying to gather as much info as I can!

Personally, I didn't have a great experience with Torque GT. The inspection in Japan could have been better, and their UK vehicle prep was shoddy, handing over a car without dipped lights.

Exactly this, even the ones considered to be well regarded importers you still have to careful with. I had a similar experience with another well regarded importer, the prep was extremely poor giving me a car with substandard brakes (don't know how it passed MOT) and a slipping clutch, how something like that can be missed I really don't know!

My current Spec C is being imported by the GTR shop who I trust to bring and prep the car how it should be.

So who was the "well regarded importer"?
How do you know the GTR shop won't slip you a kipper?

I suppose I was involved in the process right the way through and they had a detailed inspection in Japan from the same inspector they used for my R32 GTR (which was immaculate), also I have all photos and docs so the decision was made by me, it's as good an investigation we both could do, I'm fairly confident the car is a good example.

Regarding the other importer I wouldn't want to mention names, we came to a resolution but I still ended up with something worse than I expected given the description I was given!.
