Default 3" to 2 1/4" downpipe

Anybody come across a 3" downpipe that tapers down to 2 1/4"s where it joins the mid section?
I recently found out thats what I have fitted to my car.
I also purchased another downpipe second hand only to find it also tapers down to 2 1/4"s aswell.
I thought it a bit strange as they commonly taper to 2 1/2"s.
Anybody have any info on these or know how restrictive they would be?
Thanks in advance.

That's normal for downpipes on a 2.5" system. They normally start at 3" and taper down on aftermarket systems.

are you measuring the inside or outside diameter to get 2 1/4"?

As for restrictions from 2 1/2 and 2 1/4 I doubt you'll notice a difference at all.

As said, the pipe is normally 2.5" outside diameter.

exhausts are measured on external diameter unless actually specified as internal diameter

Would this be classed as a 3" tapering to 2.5" due to the external measurement?
