Cool Newbie - Future Subaru Owner.

Hey all,

Just signed up to have a gander and hopefully learn a thing or two about Subaru's.

I'm going to be looking at getting a Subaru Impreza Turbo (2000ish) as a project car to do a bit of drag racing and track days.

I've been a long time fan of Subaru's ever since my dad picked up his 2002 WRX STI Type UK brand new in mica blue with gold alloys (such a fun car). Never had the chance to own one because insurance has always been too expensive for me, but luckily I turn 25 in Feb next year so it's gonna be a lot more affordable.

I live just outside of Cheltenham, Glos and always see some tidy subies around here.

See you around,

Yorkie.

Welcome!

What sort of budget are you looking at for a UK turbo? The reason I ask is, ESPECIALLY for your intended usage, I'd be wanting something with at least a couple of the following:

- engine rebuild by someone reputable (if not then v. well documented service history)
- uprated brakes
- refreshed/upgraded suspension
- STI 6-speed box swap (long-shot!)

I'd not wager on an old classic without any of the above lasting very long without needing work. If you're very handy and happy to get stuck in yourself then this might not worry you though!

Thank you Dan, will give you a call when the time comes. Hopefully being 25 feb next year the insurance won't be too damaging!

Haha, cheers man, my bad! 13 years ago my dad had that car so memories a little thin, do remember going on some good hoons in it though!

Thanks for the welcome, I'll have a max budget of £5k (could stretch to 5.5) although won't be looking to buy to mid spring next year.

Will be going along those lines in the long run, but first will be a good service with new discs, pads and tires for the first couple of track days and then as my confidence improves I'll start by adding coilovers, sway bars, better discs and pads etc,etc..

Normally, I'd go to Powerstation to have engine work etc done as they were 10 minutes up the road from me.

Any recommended Subaru Specialists near Cheltenham?
