40 Bhp Dealer Upgrade
Hi All
My dealer has an upgrade wich claims a 40Bhp increase, cost is £500. Only work done is an ECU remap.
Seems quite cheap for such a large power increase??
They also say more BHP is gained by adding a prodrive rear box £370.
Any thoughts....car is MY98 Wagon
Cheers

Backbox on it own it not going to give you a great deal of extra bhp (if any). What it will do it make the boxer sound nicer/louder and allow the engine to breathe and rev cleaner esp. at higher revs. I would be very suspicious of a 40bhp remap unless of course its a spare prodrive chip knocking about
without the rest of the PPP.
I would ask them exactly what they intend doing if they are going to fit something to fool the ECU into allow more boost (similar to a bleed valve) then I would seriously think about it before I did and the consequeces and costs if it goes pear-shaped. Maybe they are intending to fit a unichip or similar which is feasible for 500. I dont like chipping personally unless it has had plenty of R&D behind it but that my opinion.
