Default Advice wanted for a newb

Hi folks, I've decided its time to scratch that Impreza itch after many years of Supra ownership.

Simple question can I get what I'm after for budget of around £8k? I've been looking a while and values vary wildly to say the least.

Ideally a UK 04-05, early 06 Impreza STi in good condition with FSH. Do able? Any advice/suggestions welcome!

Healthy budget there, here's what I'd be looking at

04/05 Blob STI UK with the later style dash
02 Bugeye JDM Prodrive - becoming sought after and some nice jdm bits on them
06 Hawk STI - forged engine or minimum piston swap + headgaskets
Type R - raw driving experience, more of a toy than a daily.

Average mileage is 12k per year so dont be put off by cars with 100k+. Even a 2006 should have had 2x cambelt changes by now so check the history on anything you view.

Avoid anything with unmapped modifications or wild bhp claims. If the car is modified/remapped the seller should know what fuel grade so make sure you ask.

Common weak points are rear shocks, front subframe on newage and rear arch rust, rust around spoiler and top windscreen trims.

I paid 8k for my blob sti 3 years ago, just before the boom started. Its a 2003 uk with 1 previous owner, subaru history and drives like new BUT I do wish I'd bought a jdm twinscroll instead after experiencing 2 friends cars. She's been brilliant since I got it so hopefully will continue to behave once all the upgrades are done later in the year.

Good luck with your search

+1 for a low mileage jdm bug sti. The looks are a bit marmite but they are superb cars. Easy to live with day to day too.

Thanks guys! Do you know if the Jdm ones are more expensive to insure?

Hunt down Moley (user name on here). I haven't dealt with him personally, but he's well regarded and knows what's what.

Marginally. Had both and the Type UK was about £15 a month cheaper to insure! Will differ for everyone though I'd imagine!
