Regarding the 2.5 hate dont let it discourage you, i had a 2.0 sti for 4 years and moved to a 2.5 and dont regret it at all, much better road car with the extra buckets of torque.

Just do the normal thing and make sure the previous owner treated it with respect etc warming it up and putting decent fuel in, a good way is to just ask them to take you out in it before asking any questions and see if they warm it up before tanning it, if they dont just leave it.

If you simply ignore all the potential issues they are fantastic cars! Until they break.

That said I've had 2.5 Subaru's for the last 10 years and as an every day car I just love them.

If you can, try find one with a forged engine and good service history.

As above! As long as you look after it you won't have any problems.

They are the S GT not WRX, they don't do a WRX in the hatch with 2.0 twin scroll.
When I had mine there was only 7 in the country.

Import only if your budget doesn't stretch to a sti next best alternative
The s gt is the wrx body doesn't have wide arches
