Default Upgrading fuel pump - which size to get?

Hi all,

I'm looking at taking the Wrx to around 330hp and was wondering what size fuel pump I should buy? As I'm aware that a 255 pump is more than enough capable for the power. However if I went for a 290 or 340lph pump instead would there be any negatives? As it just saves time in the future if I need to upgrade the 255 pump again due to more power.

Is it possible to just upgrade the fuel pump without a fuel pressure regulator?

Kindest regards,

Subaru Collector 555.

For 330 bhp, a 255 lph and standard regulator will be fine. Although the price of a 290 or 340 isn't much more...so doesn't make any odds really. Although a 255 will be sufficient for good power - 400 bhp ~

I have a 255 on my 2.5 litre running 400+/400+ and it's fine.

Fuel pressure sits at around 5 bar.

Yeah exactly, where it doesnt cost that much more it just saves me time of upgrading it again if I ever wanted more power. As long as it will run fine at low power with the larger fuel pumps.

It will be fine mate. People fit 255's into standard cars as they're a good replacement over ageing oem pumps.

I went for the 340lph SWRD pump on mine as the price was almost identical between the 2. Very nice bits of kit.

Great, just was a bit concerned as I saw someone else say that the larger pumps use more fuel consumption and could cause over fuelling?

Is a fuel pressure regulator needed? Or can I just upgrade the fuel pump and filter?

Kindest Regards,

Subaru Collector 555.

A larger pump will not give you worse fuel consumption. LOL. Brilliant!

The injectors will only use what the ECU tells them to use and what they are programmed to use for the revs etc. The fuel pressure regulator will help to regulate the pressure at the fuel rails and the pump will just make sure everything is at a good pressure. Putting a 3340lph pump onto a 350bhp will be just fine. No problems at all.
