Key fob stopped working
For some reason my key fob has stoped working. I have the code and am able to over ride the imoberliser with the key pad at the right hand side of the wheel. I got a quote today from subaru of £350. Is there any other way of getting a replacement key or do I have to shell out this extortionate amount. I have also tried the re-programming method to no avail. Cheers dave.
Do you mean it has stopped opening and closing the doors?? Have you tried replacing the battery's on the fob? Sorry to sound silly in advance as the actual immobiliser is a little black chip that has a corresponder unit just under the steering wheel, or has your alarm stopped working? Which points to the batterey £350! For what!!
Thanks for the reply zany. It has stopped functioning all together. I have tried the battery even tho it's nearly new anyway. I can open the door with the key and deactivate the alarm and emobiliser to start the car with the key pad. I have tried the re-programming method to see if it has just lost its code but don't get the alarm beep after the tenth turn of the key. I'm pretty sure it is caput but the £350 just for a replacement key and coding is ridiculous. I have the key code in my wallet so it's not like they have to do much.

Programming Remote Keys to the System:
Remote keys can be added or removed to/from the system following the sequence below:
i) Type in to the keypad **
ii) Type in to the keypad the “existing PIN code” then *
iii) Type in to the keypad 91 * “ the number of keys to be used” #
iv) Press the first remote key button until bleep sounds, release and press next key. Continue until all
keys have been taught to the system. Note the maximum number of keys is 4 and all keys required
to operate the system must be taught during this operation - any key not included will no longer
operate the system.
FYI - the £350 is to supply a "chipped" (transponder) key, cut blank to suit vehicle, code the keys chip to the ECU (OE immobiliser) and programme the key to the sigma alarm (alarm, alarm immobiliser and keyless entry system). Seems to be the "going rate" for a lot of replacement car keys these days.

Thanks for taking the time to do such an in depth reply. After reading my booklet after getting home from work I have just tried this method, also to no avail. Looks like I am going to have to swallow the pill and fork out. Would be good to just get a replacement chip and recode to the car rather than replace the whole thing which I already have.
You can replace the chip in the key, ask your dealer for a sigma key solution kit usually about £40 plus the dreaded vat then program as you have tried. What happens is the green gel under the switch bursts out and causes the button to fail
You no its funny you should say that as I noticed some strange sticky gel like stuff when I examined the underside of the circuit board. They keep the fact you can buy just the board quiet don't they as I explained that I thought it was just the board over the phone.

If you are feeling adventurous it is possible to just replace the switch.

A mate of mine has a specialist garage and I know he has a box of spare keys. Would it be possible to programme the chip out of one of them to my car then just use the chip in my key.
