Post Wide track, JDM, UK which to look for ?

Im about the begin the journey looking for another Subaru.
Having owned a ridiculously clean STI Bug many years ago I have decided its time to return and find another.

I quite Like the looks of the STI Blob.

This is where I have a few questions, I see the Wide track models for sale and want to know the difference between the wide track and the non WT models.

Secondly I have been looking at the JDM models but only as I like the Swoosh type gauges in those, My full intentions will be to change the turbo so the added benefit of a twin scroll means nothing to me as it would be switched out.

Are there any big advantages of going JDM against a UK model?

Now while searching its a bit of a mine field looking for a good example, I have found a few for sale which are a long way from me by a company trading under Hurst cars, Any experience with those guys would be much appreciated.

Thoughts, guidance and advice will be with the greatest of thanks.

There are lots and lots and lots of threads comparing the JDM to the UK spec blobs.

IMO,

Widetrack JDM>Widetrack UK
Pre-widetrack JDM > Pre-widetrack UK

Better car overall - only thing you'd miss would be the subaru 'burble' but they have their own special sound.

Where are you located? I have a widetrack JDM blob that you're more than welcome to look around/be driven in for a comparison.

Northernnick, I'm up near Edinburgh so as much as Id love to take you up on that I'm afraid its a fair trek however I appreciate the offer and was nice of you.

Losing the burble is something that would bother me as the unequal length headers on the UK, Euro models is one of the reasons that I miss my old gal.

How much of the Subaru burble is lost on the JDM models and would you let this put you off?

Bearing in mind a Nurspec or a Hayward and Scott will probably see the underside.
I see that the JDM boast AVS heads ? is this an advantage or something to go wrong?

I'm quite confused over the JDM or UK model, but I feel the Widetrack would be the choice regardless of what market it comes from.

This will be a second car for me to use at the weekends and be pampered, I've even considered going for another Mitsi but having been down that route There was always something that made me miss the Scooby.

My old one still in the squish post

I don't think the burble-loss would bother you that much (especially when mated with a decent rear silencer) when compared to the benefits you'd see from a twin scroll system. Definitely aim for a wide track if you can, as it'll told value better as well. UK STI's have AVCS heads too. Gives more mid-range pull.

It really depends what you want from the car, I have previously owned a uk car, but current car is a widetrack jdm with a cat back exhaust and remap and my next car will be a jdm hawk, so I vote jdm, but then there is nothing wrong with a uk car and a widetrack uk is very good. You need to decide based on what features you need from the car,
Main reason I went jdm was the twinscroll and I wasn't disappointed.

Thanks for that Daz.

My quest would most likely be to change the turbo so the twinscroll may not do it for me.
What's the expectations of a twinscoll after, full decat, pump, filters boost controller and map?

However things that do appeal to me with a JDM are the Swoosh Dash, Xenon Headlights, Electric folding Mirrors, and the fact more chance to find rot free.

I don't believe that the UK models have any of the above? would that be correct ?

A twinscroll car with an exhaust, 3 port, decent panel filter and a remap will see you 360bhp/380lbft, with excellent throttle response

Forgot mine has 3 port as well. Find it great at this level and like you say folding Mirrors sweeping dash and quite a few other extras make them favourable to me

I can vouch for that. Throttle response and power delivery is amazing!

So I found this on you tube, which to me is said to be a JDM widetrack,
The burble is still fairly present on this.
Would this be about how they sound with the equal length headers ?

Mate, if you buy a JDM, even if you change turbo, your car won't become single scroll. You'd still have a twin scroll set-up; you'd upgrade to a twin scroll turbo, eg. LM400/420, SC420, etc.

It frankly makes no sense to change a JDM to a single-scroll. In addition to the turbo you needs headers, sump, exhaust...all in all a huge spend and on top of that you've massively devalued your JDM car.

If the burble is essential (and bear in mind the JDM while less burbley has a wonderful sound all of its own) then far more sensible to get a UK car and fit Defi clocks, xenons etc.

Thanks for the above comments, I think it may come down to having a drive in a wide track JDM and see what the twinscroll hype is about

Having coming from a 400+ Evo I feel that I have set 400 as my expectations in a scooby, understandably both UK and JDM will support this with the different types of Turbo's available for them each with their own characteristics. JDM being the more expensive route against the car purchase I have to think is it worth going down the route of JDM to eventually pull it apart.

The advantages I can see are some of the added extra's which.
Im sure i will get there....

Well I think

That car is left hand drive, the clocks are in Fahrenheit so at a guess it's USDM, possibly with hawkeye clocks, and probably single scroll hence the burble.
