Thinking of a blobeye STi for track
Hi all,
I currently drive a blobeye WRX as my daily and use a Honda Integra DC5 as my track car as well as my back up daily. The DC5 has had a few nice mods but is now at the stage of going more track focused. Out of the box it's great on track and with some suspension and brake upgrades it's even better. The thing is, all along I fancy an Impreza STi as a track car, partly because Scoobies are what I love and life's too short.
I'm thinking of a blobeye STi and building it up from there. My concern is how capable and reliable will it be out of the box? With OEM suspension and brakes will it be acceptable until I can upgrade or am I going to struggle? Please note that I only do around 6-8 track days a year and far from being a Lewis Hamilton but it will get more abuse than just a road car.
At this stage I'm not worried about power as that can come later, it's more about enjoying myself on track but I am concerned about reliability. However you look at it, the Honda is bullet proof. So, is there any things I need to do to ensure the Scooby remains reliable on track? Oil coolers, more air flow etc.?
So the bottom line at this stage is start out with a standard blobeye Impreza STi and work up from there. Am I mad and I should stick with the Honda or is this idea half decent? Any advice really appreciated.
