To buy or not to buy
Hi guys
I've almost bought a very nice black wrx sti type uk wide body. It was on ebay last week only 26000 miles on clock backed up by old mot's. I saw it & thought that's the one. My main concern is it's been turned up to just over 400bhp & I'm a bit scared it's going to pop. What should I check for guy's I've had 3 scoobies in the past but the most powerful one with subtle mods was 340 bhp & they've all been bullet proof no problems at all. This thing should be hitting 60 in sub 4 sec ! Am I correct?
Going to see it probably to buy can anybody add to my check list please.
Cheers guys
Royboy.

engine knocking would be the main thing to look out for. evidence of regular servicing with quality oils and a folder of reciepts is always encouraging. check suspension for any clunking etc. its had the recent j hook discs from godspeed so might have recent pads as well i,d guess. be good to know who mapped it as well for future reference. with the low mileage and full service history and the quality parts its upgraded with it doesnt get much better than this when it comes to buying an impreza. if you have put a deposit it looks like you have bagged yourself a very well sorted example!
Well it's now on pistonheads for £15k, only now it has black wheels - I think the silver looked better - and it looks like the fmic has been sprayed black, too.

Assuming Clive's got it for £11k, that's a £4k mark-up for doing probably not very much at all. Ok, it's not illegal and this is what traders do, but this practice really annoys me, as it falsely inflates the whole market. Admittedly, it's a widetrack, looks clean, has low miles, and some decent mods, but £11k was about right for this. It's never a £15k car. It would've been about £24k brand new and come with a warranty. At £15k, it means after 11 years and how ever many owners, it's depreciated by only 37.5%, plus it won't come with a proper warranty now. Isn't the average about 40% after three years!?
However, £15k is the price somebody is going to have to pay for it now, and the knock-on effect is private sellers will use trade prices like this as a guide when deciding their own list price. Like I said, it falsely inflates the whole market.
