Second hand Scooby prices...a joke or not
When scanning the auto trader,eBay or any other selling sites I find that the money people want for their cars are very overinflated when you go to the milage and the thing has done over 130,000 miles. I run a blob wrx wagon 119,000 miles that I would want £2900 for (not selling) but a lot of them are 3700-3900. I saw a classic that I sold for 1800 two years ago on eBay at 2800, laughed my socks off.
Do you thing people want too much for their cars?

Something is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.
Also, there are certain greedy traders out there who buy a car, then slap on a few grand and sell it on. This also increases prices. Good news if you're selling, bad if you're buying.

You are right pal but it's bout time the scooby prices matched the evo's as they've always been expensive and the scoobys have been a cheaper alternative in my opinion the imports should be more expensive but the turbo2000's have gone silly stupid
#6
A combination of more "specialist" traders snapping cars up and acting almost like a cartel with their prices, and cheap n easy credit meaning there are more people willing and able to take on debt and pay silly money to own an impreza.

It actually making it depressing trying to find a reasonable priced example as the traders are ruining the market for enthusiast.
I'm started to think it's time to move onto something else as the "Jap car" era is suffering badly due to this, it's even difficult to find a evo too.

5-6-7k for a complete one or 7-8-9k in bits. the more that get broken for parts the more expensive the survivers will be..

Well as somthing gets rarer the price goes up. Thats the norm for all decent especially iconic cars. A turbo 2000 in good nick is getting hard to find so they are commanding higher prices

I really don't get all the moaning on this forum about traders and their pricing.
There is nothing unusual, illegal or immoral about buying a car from wherever you find it and sticking a higher price on it. Tescos and the like do the same thing with their commodities all the time. I don't see anyone moaning about the price of Ferraris or Porsches perhaps because they are expected to command a certain price and maybe we don't realisticly aspire to own one. Something more common like a Subaru we expect should be cheap because, well, it's more common isn't it.
Wrong.
It's called business, and it's governed by the rule of supply and demand. A dealer will only price a car according to what he thinks he can get for it.
It's simple really, if you want it badly enough then cough up.
If you can't afford/stomach the asking price then perhaps your aspirations are too high and you need to vote with your feet. If enough prospective buyers do this the prices are sure to fall.
And no I'm not a trader.

I still maintain people will kick themselves in years to come for not snapping up nice classic Imprezas.
You've got to think, there are relatively cheap, older cars out there today that will be worth a lot of money in years to come. No doubt in my mind that nice classic Imprezas will be among these cars.
One of the big movers IMO will be the R32 GTR's. I saw an absolute minter with low mileage for £25k the other day, which sold. And I actually think that's a good investment. Look at the recent £100k RS500, I'd say that GTR will match that in years to come.
I don't even think I'd want to sell my 70k mile, FSH, V6 STI for even twice what I paid for it 3 years ago. I know I may have to sell it but all the time I can afford to keep it tucked away it's an appreciating asset IMO. I know if I do have to sell it in the next few years I'll be kicking myself at some point in the future.

well closer to 3k than 4k ,
In fairness it needs a new interior carpet, new headlight , boot liner , ideally a new bumper , wheel arch liners and has a few tiny dings in it
Has got a 11 math mot and a set of defi sti genome gauges but a lovely car and never missed a heart beat.
Funnily enough a tuner has brought it but he will remain nameless !
If I had more time I'd of advertised it privately but I'd already shelled out on deposit on new car..you win some you loose some ! The previous type ra I owned I made 3k on so let's call it karma ! Lol

We're currently experiencing the biggest credit (debt) binge the world has ever known thanks to the economic policies of QE and ZIRP. just about all assets are in price bubbles including performance cars, classics, exotics etc
Lets see what these values look like once the free money taps eventually get turned off.

I'm amazed at some of the prices Impreza's are changing hands for. It wasn't long ago that the way only way you could over £10k for a Type R was by it being forged, a 6 speed and 500bhp, now people are paying £11k for a stock car.
Its not just Impreza's....Red Tommy Mak Evo's have gone through the roof, £20k is about the minimum price, with one recently advertised over £30k!..They were less than half that not long back.

Good, maybe now we'll see less of the chav type owners now they've gone through them and the low prices they were a while ago and now they will eventually evaporate and back to the mature proper enthusiastic owners will be left again.
Good news on both fronts I'd say. It's called free fun motoring to me and a pressy when I come to sell.

Classics and all subarus will rocket in value as predicted 3/4 years ago
Great investment
Money is worth nothing in the bank
£300 a week after tax on a million so the smart money is on cars
How many of us wish we had kept out our hot hatches in the eighties instead of px them for our early classics

If your using it propperly its not really an investment your burning all your profit many times over in fuel consumption . And what's the fun in keeping it locked away un a garage for only a couple days a month?
