Not sure how true this is or whether it's Subaru blowing hot air!

sure autosport or somewhere reported the 2017 STi would in fact be a hybrid

Think this is where most cars will go, maybe its a way of the manufacturers trying to slowly convert us to electric.

least an electric motor will hopefully be more robust than that pathetic 2.5 engine lol

Oh yes?

FHI one will probably have a range of about two miles, then...and little or no useful warranty.

Plus, the ones imported here will be half the power at twice the price with all the toys missing

They originally were made 2008 TPH. they built a hybrid hatch Using General Electric parts.

But with Toyota holding a stake in heavy metals. Cheapest synergy option was Toyota sourced hybrid parts. To do so they would need to modify the engine/gearbox design. Hence the MK2 engine.

Although probably more likely to be tested/developed for SUBARU Chelsea tractors then Impreza �� But as said easy to test in a BRZ first.

No, they are using couple of 300kW peak power motors, in the test mule, same as many companies. In fact same as Honda used in the first NSX test mule.
