Default Leaving Scooby ownership after 10 years.

Bit of a sad day today, STi went in part-ex for my new car, a 2009 BMW 530d M Sport.

Absolutely immaculate example with only 32k on the clock.
Don't know how many of you have driven one, but the midrange torque and acceleration are really impressive. Add half the road tax and near double the mpg of the Scoob and I'm a convert.

Took a few pics, but the crappy iPhone quality in low light really don't really do it justice.

Wouldn't you have got more selling the STI privately? Who you sell it to?

Probably, but couldn't really be arsed with the hassle.

I actually only got £2250 less than what I originally paid for it in 2012, which isn't bad depreciation for 4 years motoring.

It's fitted with the BMW drivers package, consisting of indicator delete, auto flashing lights and a radar so you can tailgate up to 2ft from the car in front.

At some point in the future, I think you may be right.

The BMW is quiet, lovely interior and quite fast - I would say a standardish STi wouldn't be anywhere near getting away from it from about 60mph upwards.

That said, I really miss the raw, visceral lowdown power the STi had and the razor sharp handling. The Beemer struggles to put the power down from a standing start, the traction control lamp keeps flashing if I drive it like I used to with the Scoob.

With the 530d You can easily achieve around 280BHP with just a remap, something I'm thinking about doing when the warranty's up.

What on earth is 'indicator delete' - completely automatic indicating (i.e. NO provision for manual bidding via conventional stalks)?!

If so, isn't such an invention a flawed idea?

No mate, it just means it has no indicators at all. I believe most BMW's are specced with this option.

I just reread your original post on it, and now realise the comedy context.

Epic - gullible - fail on my part.
