I have a Hawk STI and need a little more storage for weekend breaks/holls ect so i'm looking at going down the Roof box route,,,

Yes fugly as hell I know but not nearly as fugly as a people carrier so there lies my justification

Looking at the mounting points they are buried under the black strip now I don't want to be removing this every time I pop them on/off so what would you all recommend ?

And obviously if anyone has a set floating about let me know

You don't remove the black strip, they go under it. "L" shaped bits of metal to which the bars connect.

MontBlanc ones do anyway, they made the bars for Subaru.
