Default Hello + some sound advice needed

Hi people,

Great site btw, I've no real knowledge on Subarus but have been reading a few threads on here to try gather some info for a good pal o mine - hes currently working offshore (no internet access) and looking to buy a subaru wrx sti once hes back.

My mates looking either for an '05 or '06 wrx sti with low(ish) mileage. Said he prefers the hawkeye model (his budget is £18k) - which i think is definitely enough to buy one and some, from what I've seen.

Seen a few (uk hawkeye models) that are priced at around the £10-14k mark with about 47 -55k+ on the clock - so I guess my main question is what is a reasonable price to pay for 2006 hawkeye model ? I know this will vary by mileage / condition etc. But just to try and get a rough idea.

For example, I stumbled across this one this afternoon - 17,000 miles, forged engine but priced at almost £17k.

Now, I have done my homework on that dealership and also read a couple of threads on here about them, but anyway, lets just use the ad as an example, is a car like that, with that mileage, worth that price tag? I know the price will probably be bumpt up by a couple of grand.

I also saw this imported one for around the same price with the 2.0L engine

Another thing, would anyone recommend a JDM import of either models ('05 or '06) over the UK model ? I've read the differences between the two (JDM Vs UK) along with some reputable companies that import them, but is it that much more expensive to buy a JDM model ?

I've got a lot of info already from the forums and for that I'm very thankful. If anyone could give my their opinions on the pricing and also if its more expensive to get a JDM model it'd be more than appreciated.

Cheers in advance, all the best.

2.5 forged should be OK. Why was it forged, though, who did it, new bearings?
New oil modine? Better oil pump?
