Windscreen cracked
Driving to work yesterday morning and out of nowhere appeared a big crack all the way across the bottom of my windscreen
I don't recall any stones hitting it recently although there was a few small chips dotted around. It was a touch frozen when I started her up and had to scrape the window but it was nothing major. And the crack appeared a good 10-15 mins after I had scraped it. Just seemed a bit unusual to me but I suppose these things happen. Got to wait a week for them to replace it which is annoying. Anyway, I just wanted to hear how many other people have had same or similar problem.

Had this happen to me in the 1980s, in my Lotus Sunbeam, the fitter who replaced the screen said it was due to different temps, inside the car and outside, It was a cold, freezing morning, and I had the heater on max defrost. "Thermal shock"?

Usually £75 from most insurance for replacement,
Just make sure u get a genuine one with green tint etc in it as one place tried to fit plain glass to mine until i told them to runa nd jump and had to swap it out again,
Also make sure the rubber seal is changed, u will pay about £20 for this from the fitter,if u dont it usually cracks and leaks and u will hear the wind coming in at higher speeds.

I had a cracked screen on my bugeye few years ago. Was fine as i parked on drive night before. Next morning screen was cracked. No stone chips or any evidence of what caused it(tile coming of roof/vandal damage etc) baffled me.
