Default Advice needed bug spec c or just a RA

Hi guys about to look at a bugeye sti "spec c" but after reading a few posts I'm now unsure if it's just an RA , can some one help me on working out.

The car is MY01 sti import bug
Has-
Roof flap
Dccd 6speed .
Non hid
Low spoiler
4pots/2 pot rears
I/c tank under the bonnet
A/c
Air bags
Electric Windows
Black mirrors .
17 wrx wheels not sti version
Fog lights
R180 rear diff

That's all I know , some posts surgest it's a spec c but couple say it's RA as the I/c tank not in the boot??
Please can some one help?
Regards benji

You'll need the model code & option code to identify it correctly

Cheers Deffo was a RA, not sure now, as seen over the weekend two type ra's one v5 and mint , beyond clean . Stock , fresh import and best classic I've ever seen ,
But I was in the market for a newage as stronger ,
Is the v5 a weak engine? This car had 50k!!!! Totally original and 100% dry stored .
Or I'm I better of with a bug that's 7/10 clean . 50k. No history , clean underneath for a scoob .
I'm looking for a car that will be used just for pleasure . Spend most of its time garaged but will see 2-3 track occasions a year .
Totally confused as this classic has caught my attention but the horror stories of them spitting shells bother me, I've had two go on me. And don't want to be pulling engines out or rebuilding boxes,
The car will never have more than a system and map engine wise

Something's not right with the spec. The RA has 17" STi wheels and Brembos, but does not have DCCD. The Spec C 16" has DCCD, four-pots, intercooler tank in boot, no airbags.

As said, the VIN plate will reveal all

Can't see why anyone would want to change the Spec C IC tank for the smaller item. However, if it truly has the DCCD then it's definitely the motorsport car. My money's on the spec not being accurate.

Chassis code revealed was a RA , my 01
Like Tony said there is Infact no spec c on a 2001 car.
Is a motorsports version .
Type RA 16in base
The Dccd is right and the under bonnet tank it is too, 02 had tank in in boot,
Spec is right I saw, drove car . All the details where correct over than not a spec c as advertised.

As said above the ic tank should be in the boot for a spec c and have no airbags.
Mine is a 2002 spec c but on a 51 plate in the UK as it is a 2002 pre March car.
Couldn't recommend it enough as it's a great car even standard

I didn't realise that there was a non-Spec C 16" motorsport RA bug. All makes sense now.

Yes mate still got it. Brakes made loads of difference thanks got a few bits to sort over the winter (coilovers etc) then a track day at Oulton next year

They did a 17 inch wheel option with Brembos/bbs wheels and no dccd which was for track
The 16 inch wheel option had steel wheels no Brembos and dccd which was for rallying from what I can work out.

You are correct sir
The 16inch model even was optional for the sti seats or came with very poor seats ,
As theses cars where sold for in intention of being stripped to race/rally , so seats , brakes wheels etc etc where not needed to be upgraded as would just get binned for serious Motorsport equipment ,
I will say Subaru didn't make it easy they chopped and changed so many variations on imports .

So there was a bugeye with DCCD?

What's the weight differences between the bugeye RA and Spec C RA then?

Nothing just depends if they opted for electric Windows and a/c but both cars can come with or with out .
Also the RA and spec c has lower ratio box than normal sti but not like classic very low ratio

MY01 car was a Type RA
MY02 car was a Type RA Spec C (note NOT Spec C Type RA) & weighed 90kg less than the MY01 Type RA

Not true...the non Spec C bug RA is heavier than the RA Spec C, and gear ratios are the same for all JDM newage cars.

Not to be confused with blob and hawk RAs which are all Spec Cs...the bug RA came in non Spec C (only slightly lighter than regular STi) and RA Spec C versions (much lighter and with other tweaks such as 12L IC tank and engine and gearbox oil coolers).

My spec c only has the oil to coolant exchanger to cool engine oil and oil to air for the gearbox. The blob eye was the first spec c to come with a engine oil to air cooler

Not true tbh, motorsport models had the option of having an oil cooler fitted, it was standard on the 17 inch versions (MY02 onwards).
