Default High Mileage Scoobs!!

Hi first post here!

I'm about to foray into scoob ownership for the first time and was wondering how much of a bad idea a higher mileage example is? I've been looking for something ideally with around 50k on the clock but I've seen a few that look fairly clean and have FSH but have done a lot of miles - more like 70-90k. Do they have any niggles at high mileage that even the best owner can't keep away? Or should I not be worried if it has evidence of regular and proper servicing?

I've been looking at late blob eyes, preferably widetrack models if that helps answer my question.

Milage isn't an issue as long as it's had regular oil changes circa 6k per change is good.

50k milers are few and far between these days as they are 10yr old cars so even at 70/90k not exactly a lot for a 10yr old car.

Yes you are right about the mileage I suppose 90k isn't a lot for an 04/05 plate in realistic terms. Thanks for the reply.

Under body condition is just as an important consideration too. It can still be riddled with the rust worm at low mileage

all depends on how its been driven, and if has full service history. you can normally tell by the owner. If going for higher mile one look for a standard model. Low owners etc

Thanks for the replies everyone sounds like mileage doesn't matter too much if it's been looked after then.

Maintenance is key!

I've known someone destroy the engine on a low mileage P1. When I checked it, there was no oil on the dipstick and he would be flat out round roundabouts etc.

My wagon is on 130k and it sounds perfect. It has however been regularly serviced and cared for.

I agree with the other comments. I bought one as a second car about a year ago and looked around for a while and saw some terrible low mileage examples.

I ended up with a Wide Track 2006 Hawk STI with 90,000 miles on the clock but with a full SSH and one owner. After a year and only 1500 miles it starts and runs perfectly every time. It is still absolutely original and with no mods and upgrades.

I paid around £7750 and suspect I have not lost much money on it?

Check the paperwork to see what it's had done, as cambelts need changing at 50k and clutches typically need changing at around 80k. Just had our clutch done at 115k, it's had a fairly easy life but was told it was well worn.
