General intro and questions about a poss build
I joined up here awile back when I was on the search for a STI or evo. I ended up buying my mates FQ340 which was an awesome car. A few hundred quid had it to 400/400 and it was pretty nippy. I sold it after a year as It needed a few bits doing to it, the dreaded AYC being one £1000+ I bought something sensible as a daily and a bike for a weekend toy but I've got an itch for something fast with 4 wheels again so thinking of a blob eye STI.
Sensible question first, is there any known weak points or known issues on these which could leave me with a big bill further down the line? Next question, what can the engines and drive train take? I'm aiming for 400bhp first and don't really want to do any engine work for that if it's safe on stock internals. This is purely to keep costs low but at a later date if I want more power i haven't got a problem doing it.
That's it for now. Once I know that i'll be in a better position to take the next step. I'm scouring the classifieds to get an idea of prices and to see what I can get with potential be it a forged engine or bigger turbo and supporting mods already fitted.
Cheers

Based on the replies you're about to get I'd say you'll be buying another evo fairly soon.
Bug/blob STI will need to be your base car as the engine and gearbox will handle the power but getting to your 400bhp target wont be cheap.
Turbo, exhaust, headers, fuelling, clutch/flywheel, decent ecu/remap, brakes/suspension will see you burn through 4-5k in no time.

I'd like to spend about 11k. There was one on ebay not so long ago with a sc46 turbo for 9.5k. The clutch had been upgraded and it had loads of supporting mods. If I was in the position to buy at the time that would of been spot on
What are the blob eye engines good for?
